This is the first "reveal" of my new painting; this is the first stage of development.

Whether you read books, magazines, essays, or blogs posts, reading can be a joy that brings new ideas to mind and expands life beyond the confines of our humble existence.
I like to read novels and stories before going to bed at night, and thought-provoking books in the morning.
Reading is a gentle way to begin and to end each day; like bookends.
Currently I am reading "The Art of Possibility" by Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander. It is an uplifting book celebrating the

possibilities that life holds for us, while teaching us how to find them.
Art, whether writing, speaking, drawing, sculpting, painting, singing, dancing, acting, or playing an instrument, requires practice. Even the most gifted artist practices their craft regularly if he or she wants to improve.
The same is true with the Art of Possibility. It takes practice to learn how to shift our perspective from that which is before us, to that which we might see if we change our point of view.
To change your perspective, begin by telling yourself a different story about your situation. Rather than using a declarative statement about the way things are, ask a question about what could be possible.
For example, when I look at a painting in progress, I wonder what will happen if I put some dark paint in one area or outline something else in another. How will that change the painting? What new possibility will take shape while I paint?
Living life in the "realm of possibility" as opposed to the "land of certainty" requires maintaining new practices.
1. Practice finding your balance. Possibility equals uncertainty; therefore it is vital to be able to find your equilibrium at a moment's notice.
2. Focus at least as much on what you want, as you focus on what is already present in your life.
3. Give yourself, and everyone you meet, the benefit of the doubt.
These practices, while seemingly simple, can be hard to sustain. They are also worth your effort.
The world can be filled with the possibility of promise and hope. It is up to us to make it so, one practice at a time.

The title of this painting is "Emerging Possibilities". When it began, I hoped to find three hibiscus flowers and perhaps a few buds. I had no way of knowing just how many would eventually appear. This piece reminds us to stay open to our possibilities.
