Phi Mu Phi Theta!!

On October 16th, for the second year in a row, the local Phi Mu Chapter at Towson University volunteered at Art in the Round. They spent the evening helping guests bid on artwork with mobile bidding using smart phones and iPads.  Art in the Round helps to promote local artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Phi Mu ladies were a big help in making this event a success. Thank you from The Arc Baltimore and the people we support!

Best Art In The Round Yet!

Nearly 400 people attended Art in the Round last Friday in support of The Arc Baltimore and the amazing artists there showcasing their talent. Guests bid generously using our new and improved mobile bidding app and were excited to take home a coveted piece of art. Eighty featured pieces were chosen by our selection committee from more than 200 submissions!

One lucky guest won the tech bundle valued at $3,000. Other attendees mingled with the artists, danced to the music of the DJ, and enjoyed the delicious food and The Lily Pad (pomegranate martini) specialty drink. Over $40,000 was raised for The Arc Baltimore and 60% of auction bids went to the artists - it was a wonderful night for all! Click here to see the event photos.

Intern Spotlight

Claudia Smith interns at The Arc Baltimore's center in Dundalk fifteen hours a week. She has been with The Arc for a year having graduated with a certificate from the DORS (Department of Rehabilitation Services) program last year. She was in the Office Technology Administrative Professional program in the Workforce and Technology Center. In her program of study, Claudia learned many computer skills and Microsoft Office. She helps with projects for the office of volunteers, and the activities assistant, and is currently helping with a project for the development office.  Thank you Claudia, we appreciate everything you do for The Arc Baltimore and the people we support!

Loyola Students Raise Awareness With One Question

Earlier this month, a writing class at Loyola University Maryland put on a campus event to raise awareness about people with developmental disabilities. More than 200 students packed the room to watch the short film, One Question, and to hear from a panel of self-advocates including Cassie Dittman, Maria and Danny Rosner, Melvin McClain, and Tara and Heather Lilley. Here the class and self-advocates pose before a poster board with the students' responses to the question: "If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?" They answered the question before they saw the movie. It's likely the movie and the panel would change their answers.
