The 21st Annual Golf Tournament Hits A Hole In One, Literally

Over 150 golfers enjoyed sunny skies and warm weather while golfing at the Woodlands Golf Course at The Arc Baltimore's 21st Annual Golf Tournament. Thanks to all the golfers and the many generous corporate sponsors who helped us raise over $80,000.

Congrats to the winning foursome from Advance Business Systems and the biggest excitement of the day, was when longtime golfer, Stuart Epstein, hit a hole in one to win a car. A special thanks to Bob Davidson Ford Lincoln who donated the "hole in one prize!" Click here to see pictures from the golf tournament.

Thanks To Your Generous Contributions, Markia Got Her Car!

Yesterday was the big day at  Vehicles for Change when Markia and her daughter got to drive away in their new car. Thanks to everyone who contributed to make this possible. The car is replacing her car that was torched during the riots. While this situation was extreme and incredibly hard, The Arc's Family Fund helps families year round with crises and profound needs. That is due to our generous contributors -- whether it's $5 or $500. Thank you.

Legislative Update

Good News!! Governor Hogan has agreed to spend the FY 16 funds allocated by the General Assembly for two areas in the DDA budget that were on hold. There will be $3 million in new funding for people in the Crisis Resolution Category on the DDA Waiting List, and $2.2 million for the Purchase of Service / "Carve Out" grants (which restores half of what was originally cut).  More detail will be forthcoming on how the lesser amount of carve-out funds will be used. Thanks to all those who made calls and sent messages to the Governor. We were heard!

Where Hope Grows, Coming To A Theater Near You

On May 15th, Where Hope Grows will be released to select theaters all over the country. Click the image above to watch the trailer.

A story of redemption through hope and love, Where Hope Grows tells the story of Calvin, a former professional baseball player who has failed in the majors and lives in a perpetual quicksand of self-pity. This all begins to change when he meets and befriends a grocery store clerk with Down syndrome, known as "Produce". "Produce" inspires all those around him with a gentle spirit of perseverance, and the movie gives us a wonderful opportunity to share and celebrate the contributions that our family members, friends, co-workers, and others with I/DD bring to their communities.

The Arc is a promotional partner of the film, and we hope that you will watch it and engage your peers in a discussion of what inclusion of people with I/DD really means by using  The Arc's discussion guide.
