Outpouring of Generosity
Leads to New Car for Mom
Markia Proctor lost her car last week when her Mondawmin neighborhood was at the starting point of the Baltimore rioting. After she reached out to The Arc Baltimore for help, staff connected with Vehicles for Change to get Markia a new car for work, school, and her daughter Malaiya's many therapies/doctors' appointments and child care. Then, The Arc Baltimore reached out to its network to help raise the $2,500 fee to acquire the care for Markia. In just under 24 hours, through the generosity of over 50 people, we raised the full amount.
After notifying Markia of meeting this goal, she responded:
"All I can say is WOW and thank you for the amazing support and love that The Arc displays. I'm constantly advocating for you guys and expressing nothing but wonderful thoughts and sharing my experiences. I encourage people to give or donate and I'm going to challenge myself for the cause as well. Because of Malaiya's demanding medical issues, work hasn't been steady, but I would like to donate something so that I can give back. I'm so excited and anxious - like a child on Christmas Eve! You guys will be one of the first stops Malaiya and I will make in our new car. Thank you again in advance."

Please know that The Arc's Family Fund is always there for families of children and adults with disabilities who face crises and needs of a different kind - eviction prevention, diapers, new eyeglasses, special therapies, and home accessibility upgrades like wheelchair ramps.
