The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have issued regulations that define the settings in which states are allowed to pay for Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS).
Maryland has to submit to CMS a transition plan on how we will meet the new rule by March 2015. Please come out to one of the following locations listed below to give input on the draft plan that shows how Maryland will meet these new rules to continue paying for Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS).
The draft plan will be posted here: http://1.usa.gov/1qShuz0
The new federal rules that all states will need to follow means that:
* The setting must be integrated in and supports full access to the greater community;
* The setting must be selected by the individual from among setting options;
* Each individual has a right to privacy, to be treated with dignity and respect, and is free from coercion and restraint;
* Each individual is supported in making life choices; and
* Each individual is given choice regarding services and who provides them.
We would like you to give input on the draft plan to transitions services and providers to support individuals:
* Engaging in community life;
* Controlling personal belongings and money;
* Receiving services in the community;
* Receiving information on all options about where to live, including independent living; and
* Choice of residential settings in view of his or her ability to pay for room and board.
The below times, dates and places are where the draft transition plan will be presented in the central region. Please RSVP by visiting the webpage listed. If you cannot attend in person, you may view the interactive webinar on January 9th. In addition, comments and questions can be submitted at any time to dhmh.hcbssetting@maryland.gov.
