Longtime Clowns' Legacy Lives On Through The Arc's Clown Troupe

On December 5, 2014,  longtime clowns in their nineties, Mildred "Bubble B" Hammond and her husband Forrest "Mr. B." Hammond, donated all of their clown items to the Clownin' Around Troupe at our center in Dundalk. Members of the Free State Clown Alley #30 presented the items in their honor and conveyed a special message from the clown couple. The message was that the spirit of two human beings, who dedicated much of their lives to creating joy and happiness for all walks of life, lives within the spirit being shared.  Go forth and spread joy!

Wings For Autism Soars!

To alleviate the stress individuals with autism spectrum disorders often experience when traveling by air, The Arc Baltimore and other chapters of The Arc throughout Maryland partnered with BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, Southwest Airlines, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and AIRMALL and held Wings for AutismŽ on Saturday, December 6, 2014.

Over 50 families and volunteers from across Maryland participated in the event. Wings for AutismŽ offers individuals with autism or other intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families a chance to practice entering the airport, obtaining boarding passes, going through security, and boarding a plane. Wings for AutismŽ also gives airport, airline, TSA professionals, and other personnel the opportunity to observe, interact, and deliver their services in a structured, learning environment. Read the article in the Baltimore Sun. Click here to see pictures from the event.

Giving Back

A big thanks goes out to members from Zion United Church of Christ in Perry Hall, who hosted a special event for individuals with disabilities and staff from The Arc Baltimore on December 7th. After the event, the congregation cooked dinner, handed out gifts and sang carols. All had a wonderful time.
