Clownin' Around's Summer Tour

 

    

 

The Arc Baltimore's clown troupe, Clownin' Around, went out on tour for three weeks in July and performed at seven  summer camps for children with developmental disabilities. Led by boss clown T-Bone, aka volunteer Steve Carder, Clownin' Around consists of nine supported individuals and two staff members.  All the kids who attended had a wonderful time and couldn't stop laughing!

Daily Record Honors President Carla Murphy

 

Board President Carla Murphy will be named to the VIP Under 40 list by the Daily Record. The Daily Record recognizes Maryland leaders based on their professional accomplishments and a commitment to inspiring change in their community.  These great leaders have achieved their tremendous accomplishments before or by age 40.  This year's VIP's will be honored on August 20th at 5:30 P.M. at Gertrude's at the Baltimore Musuem of Art.

The Arc Baltimore receives CARF Accreditation!     

 

The Arc Baltimore received its fourth, three-year CARF accreditation in June. This recognition is a testament to the hard work of our Board, staff and families for the organization and the individuals that we support. Big round of applause!  CARF is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of human service providers with a main focus on quality assurance.

Golf Tourney Co-Chair reflects on his 20 years supporting The Arc    

  

After the dust settled from The Arc Baltimore's 20th Annual Golf Tournament, tournament committee co-chair Mike Eikenberg from Expressway Office Solutions reflected on his involvement with The Arc Baltimore and its golf tournament for the past 20 years where he raised over $1.3 M.

Ken Capone Receives Presidential Appointment  

 

Ken Capone, public policy coordinator for the Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities, was appointed by President Obama to a key administration post on the President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities in May.  The committee promotes policies and initiatives that support independence and lifelong inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in their respective communities, and provide advice and assistance to the president of the United States and the secretary of health and human services.

Artwork Needed!!
 
Adult and youth artists with developmental disabilities can now submit artwork for consideration in our 13th annual Art in the Round exhibit and silent auction. The deadline for art submission for adults is September 22nd and children and youth is September 29th, and all submissions must include an artist packet.

National Convention 2014
 
Over 600 people from The Arc's nearly 700 chapters are expected to attend their national convention in New Orleans from September 30 - October 2 to network with those who share a passion for disability issues, learn from the best in the field and add a voice to those who are shaping the future of The Arc.
