Parents of Children With Autism Needed For Phone Interview

Do you have a child with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) between the ages of 14 and 23 who attends public school in Maryland or who completed public high school in Maryland within the last two years? Have you and your child worked with his/her school to plan for transition to college or career? If so, we want to hear from you!
The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools at the School for Public Health and Health Services at the George Washington University is looking for parents of teens or young adults with an ASD who are or have attended public school in Maryland, and are willing to give 1-2 hours of their time to participate in a focus group or phone interview to share their experiences on ASD transition as part of the "Autism Transition Project," funded by the Nelson and Michelle Carbonell Family Foundation.
We will be holding a Focus Group for Baltimore County and Baltimore City parents on Thursday, February 27th from 7pm-9pm at The Arc Baltimore. Click here for more info.

New Autism Fact Sheets Available
Autism NOW: The National Autism Resource & Information Center, a project of The Arc, has created a series of seven fact sheets offering information about topics important to individuals with autism and their families.
Topics include employment, inclusion, IEPs, future planning and Social Security. Each fact sheet offers in-depth information along with links to other resources written specifically to be accessible to individuals with autism. And, each fact sheet is translated into Spanish and Mandarin.

YouthWorks 2014, a Baltimore City summer jobs program for teens between the ages of 14 and 21, has started their registration process and once again it is an "ONLINE" process. Please review the following dates:
January 2 - March 14:
Online preregistration period.
January 21 - March 29:
Certification Appointments held after school and five Saturdays in March.
April 4:
Last day for work-sites to submit receipts for registered youth.
April 14 - 17:
Job readiness classes will be held during Spring Break for youth selected to participate in the Hire One Youth component. Boot camps will be offered during the winter months for out of school youth.
June 23 - August 1:

SSI Survey
An online survey is being conducted by Policy Research Inc. through a grant from Social Security Administration to understand the experiences of service coordinators/case managers and families/caregivers who have applied for and assisted with Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Questions may be directed to John Keesler, a doctoral candidate in the School of Social Work at the University at Buffalo. Contact John at 716-983-2513 or jkeesler@buffalo.edu
The survey asks what is working well, challenges and recommendations for improvement. Responses are anonymous and survey participants are eligible for an incentive.
