Panathlon returns to the Olympic Park!

The 'Copper Box Arena' in the
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
.

Panathlon have secured the 'Copper Box Arena' in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, as its venue for the London Final for the next three years. This multi-use venue used for Handball at the Olympics and Goalball during the Paralympics, has officially re-opened for public use. Panathlon is delighted to be working in partnership with GLL, the operators of this iconic venue and many others, to host many of our competitions throughout 2014.

For Panathlon, it is a welcome return to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. In April 2012, twenty Panathletes were the first disabled racers on the Olympic track in an official test event, prior to the Olympic and Paralympic Games (see our video of the race here). Nearly two thousand competitors will be trying to qualify over the next six months to represent their Borough at the London Final on June 18th 2014. The full story can be read here.

Training Courses 2013/14
Some of the 500 Panathlon Young Leaders in 2013.

In 2013 we trained over 500 young leaders as Panathlon Officials, taking them through a detailed training course, and then putting them through their paces at one of the 50 competitions we delivered. This highlighted the ability of hundreds of young people, who given the opportunity, demonstrated incredible knowledge and leadership skills. Over 3,500 active hours of experience were gained and we will be enhancing this programme in 2014. See the list of Young Panathlon Official Courses here. More being added regularly. Furthermore we are delivering various sporting qualification courses throughout the year such as Boccia Young Officials and ASA Aquatic Leaders courses, to enable many more young people to gain sporting qualifications.
