Clear Lake Camp 'N Dive

August 23 to 25

This is our annual group adventure to enjoy the pristine water and amazing clarity that defines Clear Lake.

Clear Lake lives up to its name. On two separate occasions I have taken a 300 foot long surveyors tape into the lake, unspooled it fully and, while I could not able to tell exactly how many fingers my buddy was showing me for air pressure I could tell he was gesturing to me.Gregg Cline cruises Clear Lake August 2008

Come for the day or stay for the entire weekend!! My buddy Kris Gorsuch reported that diving Clear Lake is what he thinks a moonscape looks like, rolling dunes of ash, deep vents from which water erupts, mounds of volcanic rock, pockets of yellow and white algae on the bottom of crystal clear water.

The lake is a great family destination. Rent a row boat or canoe, hike or bike around the lake, picnic in the pines under blue summer skies.
DON'T MISS OUT !!!

Altitude and DPV Specialty Classes will be offered this weekend. The DPV Specialty requires a pool and classroom session before using a DPV in the lake. Call Kristen or Mark to schedule your specialty class.

Make cabin reservations as soon as possible. Camp sites are first come, first served at the south end of the lake.
Click this link for the Resort and Campground to learn about the lake or make reservations.

Oceanic Warrior Project

$250 Grant for Wounded Warrior Scuba Classes

Those of us that already dive know what a life changing experience learning to Scuba dive can be. It's not just a way to explore this vast and wonderful planet. It offers us a challenge, a hurdle to overcome, friendship, adventure, confidence and a new perspective. Because of this, diving can also heal. HydroSports is an Oceanic Warrior Training Center.
Oceanic Warrior Divers

With your help the Oceanic Warriors Project is introducing veterans to Scuba and changing lives in the process. Dive great gear and help us support our Wounded Warriors at the same time. Join us and be a part of the team helping our veterans continue to experience life, explore and to grow-in spite of any physical or emotional limitations.

The Viper and V16 fins, our classic UltraDry and the ION and ION3 masks have been given a make-over and styled, appropriately in red, white, and blue. Purchase a complete set or any individual product to show your support and Oceanic will commit 7% of every sale to the program. Staff Appreciation at HydroSports Dive and Travel

After almost every open water training weekend I am taken aside by newly certified divers, partners or parents of new divers and told that I have chosen outstanding Education Team members. I'm told the team is patient, thorough, safety conscious, fun and entertaining.

I'm sometimes asked how I "found" each of the team. Truth be told, the team found me and HydroSports. Most of the team began training at HydroSports or built on early training elsewhere by taking numerous classes with us. The focus has always been on safety, fun, respect for the ocean and each student. It seems to me that the example I set has attracted a family of dive leaders that deliver the care and instruction our students appreciate.

Our three newest team members, Noel Mak, Kelly Schiedler and Dick A. Holihan, Jr. are perfect examples of the pattern. All began training elsewhere and have chosen to become PADI Professions by completing training at HydroSports and are excited to assist student divers as Divemasters.

I am deeply appreciative of the contributions each of the team make helping to fulfill HydroSports Mission, helping each of you reach your scuba diving goals and dreams.

How can we help you reach your next dream?

Dive Cozumel
February 2014
Join Kristen and Jay on an adventure to Cozumel. We're traveling February 14 to 22, 2014 and will be staying at Hotel Cozumel.

Experience five days of two tank dives with Aldora Divers. Aldora has FAST boats, 100 cubic foot steel tanks, offers 70 minute bottom times and shore breaks between dives unlike most operators who offer 80 cubic foot tanks, 45 minute dives and no shore break. Jay and Kristen dove with Aldora and three other operators on an exploration trip and found Aldora to be far superior.

What's included?
  • Airfare from Portland
  • 7 nights lodging
  • All meals
  • All drinks (including alcohol)
  • 5 days of two tanks dives
  • Airport transfers

Trip price, $1775 diver, $1285 non-diver plus approximately $130 tax.

A $300 per person deposit is due with your reservation.

Join us May 15 for a trip orientation meeting.

Dive Catalina
 Spring Break 2014
Diving the kelp forests of Santa Catalina Island, 26 miles across the sea from Long Beach, California, is one of the easiest and most interesting experiences on the US west coast. Located near the intersection of "tropical" and northwest critter zones, the marine life is abundant and diverse.

Our plan is to board the Catalina Express (the ferry from Long Beach to Avalon Harbor) on Monday morning March 24, 2014. We're staying for the next four nights at the Catalina Canyon Resort, a very diver friendly destination.

We're diving Tuesday and Wednesday aboard the
King Neptune, a 66 foot long, 18 foot wide dive boat. Our plan is three boat dives each day.

Thursday we'll dive at the Avalon Dive Park, just a few blocks from our hotel.
Casino Point Aquatic Life
What's the cost?

The 2013 trip, including ferry from Long Beach to Avalon, four nights lodging, six boat dives and air, tanks and weights for a day at Casino Point was under $700. Next year's price is not set but will be similar. Non-divers this year paid $389 per person.

Save the date and join us!

What's included?
  • Round trip ferry on the Catalina Express
  • Four nights lodging at the Catalina Canyon Resort (ppdo)
  • Two days of boat dives aboard the King Neptune Dive charter
  • Lunch and beverages aboard King Neptune
  • Tanks and weights aboard the King Neptune.
  • Tanks and weights for four shore dives at the Casino Point Dive Park

What's not included?

  • Travel to Long Beach Harbor from home
  • Meals (other than those aboard the King Neptune)
  • Equipment rental
  • Room upgrades

What will rental gear cost on Catalina? On our 2013 trip a full set of rental gear, BCD, regulator, wet suit, hood, weights, gloves from Scuba Luv, the local dive shop and operator of the King Neptune, will run $65.00 the first day, $32.50 each additional day.

Contact Mark Fischer to reserve your space on our fourth annual Catalina trip.

The Fun Part:

With the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating, you have reached the highest non professional level in the PADI System of diver education. It means that you have acquired significant training and experience in a variety of dive environments.
