Greetings!
Fall has arrived with a snap. Warm, Indian summer weather has given way to crisp nights and grey, drizzly days. Diving conditions are getting better and better.
Visibility last weekend in Hoodsport was 20 to 25 feet with a cool layer of fresh water at the surface. Our November crew in Hoodsport worked with seven Open Water divers and five Advanced Open Water divers, an instructor candidate and a Master Scuba Diver Trainer candidate. Nearly every rental dry suit we have and one we rented were in use. Our pot luck dinner Saturday night was a feast.

Call HydroSports to reserve your space at the Yellow House and/or your space aboard the Down Time. |
Rescue Diver Class Begins in December
Dives take place in January |
"Challenging" and "rewarding" best describe the PADI Rescue Diver course. Building upon what you've already learned, this course expands on what you already know about how to prevent problems, and how to manage them if they occur.
The fun part about this course is rising to challenges and mastering them. Most divers find this course both demanding and rewarding, and at the end, say it's the best course they've ever taken.
What You Learn
- Self rescue
- Recognizing and managing stress in other divers
- Emergency management and equipment
- Rescuing panicked divers
- Rescuing unresponsive divers
Call HydroSports to reserve your space in this most challenging and rewarding of PADI classes. |
Search and Recovery Specialty Class |
Learn how to plan, organize and execute Search and Recovery expeditions from one of the regions most experienced salvagers. Jeff Trembly has assisted with dozens of searches for lost or missing ships, recovered objects large and small and returned objects of significant historic value to their rightful owners.
Earn your PADI Search and Recovery Specialty certification December 1 and 2. Our base of operations is The Yellow House. Learn how to use lift bags, reels, search patterns and charts to locate and recover lost and missing valuables.
Class fee, usually $195, is only $155 this weekend only. Fee includes instruction, Search and Recovery Specialty Manual and certification application fee.
Class is limited to 6 divers. Call HydroSports to register today. |

Dental Mission Fiji: May 2 to 11, 2013 |
Join me May 2 to 11, 2013.
I am actively recruiting dental professionals and divers of all stripes to join us on our third mission of passion and compassion. Do you know a dentist or dental hygienist or technician who might want to do some very good work in a distant land and experience some of the best diving and snorkeling in the Pacific? Would you like to join the team and play a supporting role? All are welcome.
| Dr. Mike Litchfield treats a patient in Kadavu Koro, Fiji. |
Our base of operations will be the Matava Eco Resort on the island of Kadavu, Fiji. Remote by both time and distance, the villagers of Kadavu Koro have little access to dental care. Three years ago Dr. Mike Litchfield and D. Sean Hanson of Salem lead the team. Our goal next year is to bring more dentists and dental hygienists to provide a higher level of preventive dental care to these wonderful people.
To read the observations of our first dental mission participants, click HERE.
The trip cost is $3226 for divers and $2826 for non-divers. The trip includes airfare from Los Angeles to Kadavu, transfers to the resort, five days of two-tank boat dives, unlimited shore diving at Critter Junction, 7 nights lodging in a tradition bure, traditional Lovo Feast and Kava ceremony, all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, unlimited tea/coffee).
Please call Mark Fischer, 503-304-5383, for further information.
A $200 deposit is needed with your reservation. Balance in full is due April 1, 2013. |
