To the Class of 2016--
Congratulations! You Did It!
There's a candid photograph taken at a White Hawks football game last fall that perfectly sums up my feelings about the Mound Westonka High School Class of 2016. In the photo, senior Alex Wells has his arm around a young ball boy (who happens to be my son, Peter) as they watch the White Hawks win their first Homecoming game since 2003 under the lights of Haddorff Field.

There's no doubt that this year's class of seniors has achieved remarkable success, but it's the heart of the class of 2016 that I will most remember. Your compassion, goodwill and integrity stood out during your time here, and you continue to be wonderful ambassadors of our school and community.

But we certainly can't forget all of the success this class has achieved! Please read the Borg Report for a few of the many accomplishments of this year's graduating class.

Kindergarteners Serve Three-Course 'Meals' of Books--
At Shirley Hills Reading Café

Visitors to the kindergarten hallway at Shirley Hills Primary School on May 25 were welcomed by signs that read, "Please Wait to be Seated." Diminutive maître d's wearing black and white and holding trays escorted guests to tiny tables. On the menu for the morning? Three courses of storybooks, read aloud by excited 5- and 6-year-olds.

Westonka FUNd Run Raises Over $24,000--
For Personalized Learning Spaces
It was less about the race time and more about the fun when 1,255 students and members of the Westonka community participated in the second annual 5K FUNDrun on Saturday, May 21.

Under clear blue skies, participants' clean white shirts were soon bathed in color as they walked, ran, skipped and danced their way around the course, while going through multiple color powder stations.

Organizers estimate that this year's event raised over $24,000 for Westonka Schools.

During lunches, students went out to the courtyard to claim their medals in the following categories: 4.0 GPAs, "A" honor roll, most improved GPAs, perfect attendance, and the White Hawks Award, which recognizes character, citizenship, improvement, kindness and/or school spirit.
