The Westonka Schools bond referendum special election is only 11 days away. Visit the Referendum Hub to gather the facts and vote on or before Tuesday, May 10.

For Westonka 5K Color FUNd Run
Friday, April 29, is the LAST DAY to save $5 and guarantee your T-shirt for the 2016 Westonka 5K FUNd Color Run.

The family-fun event will start at Mound Westonka High School at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 21. Registration is $25 per runner. The price increases to $30 on Saturday, April 30. T-shirts are only guaranteed to those registered by April 29.
 
Hilltop Celebrates Earth Day--
With Outdoor Activities 
All Hilltop Primary School students, kindergarten through fourth grade, celebrated Earth Day April 22 with a variety of outdoor activities. Brett Sieberer, Hilltop's special teammate and environmental expert from Three Rivers Park District, was a key figure in the day's activities.

Fourth-grade teacher Craig Schmidt exclaimed, "It was a wonderful day!" 
 
Shirley Hills Presents 'Thwacked!'--
A Fractured Tale of Frogs, Folks and Falling Skies
A total of 114 Shirley Hills Primary School students will present "Thwacked! A Fractured Tale of Frogs, Folks and Falling Skies" as the spring operetta.

Shows will be held May 5 at 7 p.m. and May 6 at 2:30 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 and are available at the Shirley Hills office. 
 
MWHS Boys and Girls State Reps--
Chosen by Mound American Legion
Ten Mound Westonka High School juniors have been selected by the Mound American Legion Post and Auxiliary to represent the Westonka community at the annual Boys and Girls State Conventions June 12-18.

The candidates were chosen, after interviews with the Legion and Auxiliary, based on their leadership skills, ability to work with others, honesty, enthusiasm and interest in citizenship training. 
 
School District History Lessons--

On April 18, 1916, Arnold Gloor of Sherburne, Minnesota, was elected superintendent of the school district we now know as Westonka for the 1916-1917 and 1918-1919 school years.

In years past, the Spirit of the Lakes Festival has turned to local artists to design art for the annual festival, to give it fresh visual flair that updates each year.

White Hawks baseball wins conference opener
The Mound Westonka varsity baseball team won its conference opener in a big way on April 14 when they dismantled Dassel-Cokato by a score of 15-1.

A new Westonka early childhood addition could be completed in a little more than one year.

Sports Highlights
Softball Takes Second in MCA Tourney
Mound Westonka High School softball had a busy, successful week on the road, playing five games, including the first conference games. The White Hawks were the runners-up in the Maranatha Christian Academy Tournament on April 23.

Boys Tennis Captures St. James Tourney Title
The MWHS boys tennis team had a busy week, playing three matches and a tournament in a six-day span. They defeated Fairmount to claim the St. James Tournament title on April 23. 
 

Girls Golf Drives Toward a Successful Season
After the first three conference meets, the Mound Westonka High School girls golf team is ranked second in the eight-team conference.


Youth Wrestlers Place at State Tournaments
The Mound Westonka White Hawks youth wrestling program completed another successful season, with 13 wrestlers competing in the Northland Youth Wrestling Association State and Invitational tournaments in Rochester, Minnesota, March 31-April 3.
