Grandview Seventh-Graders Take Home Trophies--
From Future City Competition
Two teams from Grandview Middle School took part in the regional Future City competition Jan. 23 at Dunwoody Institute, where they shared their city presentations and models with dozens of engineer judges from companies like 3M, Eaton and Emerson. 

Out of 50 teams that competed at regionals, both Grandview teams earned awards.

Westonka Speech Students Earn Ribbons--
At Marshall Tourney
The Mound Westonka High School speech team participated in a two-day tournament in Mashall, Minnesota Jan. 29-30. MWHS competed against 28 schools from Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado and Tennessee.

Sophomore Anna Worden advanced to semifinals in Novice Extemporaneous Reading, and senior Sophia Kenton advanced to quarterfinals in Varsity Poetry.

Shirley Hills Surpasses Goal--
In Pennies for Patients Drive
 
During the month of January, students at Shirley Hills Primary School partnered with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to collect "Pennies for Patients." The school set an initial goal of $5,000, which the enthusiastic student body raised to $6,000. As final donations were being tallied this week, Shirley Hills students actually raised over $8,100 with the help of a generous community. 

MWHS Fencer Says 'En Garde!'--
Preps for Junior Olympics
Mound Westonka High School junior Lauren Miller will be packing up her fencing foil and heading to Cleveland, Ohio next week to compete in the 2016 Junior Olympic Fencing Championships

Miller will compete in the cadet (CWF) and junior (JWF) pools of women's foil fencing Jan. 12 and 14.

Sports Highlights
Hawkettes are Headed Back to State!
The Mound Westonka High School Hawkettes Dance Team is once again headed to the state tournament after a clean sweep at the Section 3AA Tournament Jan. 30. The varsity Jazz and High Kick teams were both named Section Champion.


White Hawks Send Two to State Nordic Meet
A pair of White Hawks are headed to the state Nordic ski meet after placing in the Top 10 at the Section 6AA meet on Feb. 1. Senior captain Samuel Abegglen placed sixth overall, and junior captain Noah Brammer placed 10th.


Schepers Scores Four in Section Playoff Win
Mound Westonka High School junior Liz Schepers recorded a rare stat known by some as a "Texas hat trick" Thursday night, scoring four goals in the White Hawks' 7-0 Section 2A playoff win over St. Peter. 


Kuznik to Make Fourth Trip to State Alpine Meet
In an extremely strong field of racers at the Section 5 meet Feb. 4, Mound Westonka High School senior Anson Kuznik finished eighth to qualify for the state tournament again this year. 


Gymnastics Team Claims Conference Title
The Watertown-Mayer/Mound Westonka varsity gymnastics team claimed the Wright County Conference Championship, winning with a season high over Waconia and Orono on Jan. 28. 


White Hawks Net Three Straight Wins
The White Hawks boys basketball team earned its third consecutive victory Thursday night with a 76-65 win over Dassel-Cokato. The winning streak started Jan. 26 with a 66-58 win over Litchfield and continued with a 61-57 win Jan. 29 at Watertown-Mayer.


Tough Week on the Rink for Boys Hockey
The Mound Westonka High School boys hockey team fell to the Waconia Wildcats on Jan. 26 and lost a tense rematch with the Orono Spartans Jan. 29.

Wrestlers Fare Well Against Section Opponents
The Mound Westonka White Hawks wrestling team had a busy week, competing in four dual meets and an individual tournament.
