The Mound Westonka High School Hawkettes Dance Team is once again headed to the state tournament! The varsity Jazz and High Kick teams were both named Section Champion at the 3AA Dance Team Tournament, which was held Jan. 30 at MWHS. This marks the 11th time in the last 12 years that the Hawkettes will be competing at state.

"I am so so proud of these girls," coach Molly Carlson said. "They pushed themselves, they fought hard and they surpassed all of our expectations. I'm excited to see them do it all again at state!"

Also advancing to state in the Jazz division are Marshall and Rockford, which placed second and third, respectively, at Sections. Advancing in the Kick division are Hutchinson, which placed second at Sections, and Delano, which placed third.
 
State Dance Tournament Information   
The state Jazz tournament will be held at the Minneapolis Target Center on Friday, Feb. 12. The Hawkettes take the floor at approximately 2:56 p.m., dancing eighth in the AA division. The top six teams will be announced and will compete in the finals at 7:15 that night. The top three teams will be recognized after the final round.

The state Kick tournament will be held at the Target Center on Saturday, Feb. 13. The Hawkettes take the floor at approximately 2:32 p.m., dancing fifth in the AA division. The top six teams will again be announced and will compete in the finals at 7:15 that night.

General admission tickets for the tournament are $14 for adults and $9 for students. More information can be found on the Target Center website.

Westonka Fan Bus
A fan bus to the tournament will be available for MWHS students on Friday, Feb. 12. Students interested in riding the bus must have a parent/guardian fill out the Online Permission Form and return the $6 transportation fee to the Activities Office by Thursday, Feb. 11. The fan bus will load at 1:15 p.m. and depart from MWHS at 1:25 p.m. on the 12th. It will return after the Hawkettes are done competing (time TBD).
 
Tickets to the state tournament are not included in the price of the bus ride and must be purchased for $9 at the door.
