Shirley Hills Hosts Over 500 Special Guests--
On Grandfriends' Day
A record number of special guests attended Grandfriends' Day at Shirley Hills on Nov. 6. This popular event is always one of the highlights of the year for Shirley Hills students, staff and families.

"Grandfriends' Day was a huge success! For the first time ever, we surpassed 500 guests for the day," said Principal Scott Eidsness. 

Westonka Students Ponder Meaning of Service--
Thank Military Veterans
Last July, Westonka Schools had the opportunity to honor 
88-year-old World War II veteran Russell Whittaker by presenting him with a long-awaited high school diploma. This year on Veterans Day, Westonka students and staff took time to reflect on the sacrifices made by veterans like Mr. Whittaker and thank them for their service to our country.

World's Best Workforce Report--
Highlights 2014-2015 District Goals, Results
Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Mark Femrite presented the Westonka Public Schools World's Best Workforce Report at the Nov. 9 school board meeting.

Westonka History Lessons--
With Dr. Pam Myers
October 2015 marked the 100th anniversary of the forming of a consolidated school district in the area we now know as Westonka. In celebration of the Westonka's centennial, Dr. Pamela Myers of the Westonka Historical Society, also former superintendent of Westonka Public Schools, has organized a series of presentations on the early history of the school district. 

Summaries of Myers' presentations will be posted each month to the district website. We hope that you will join us on this journey through Westonka's past!

Student Senate to Launch Collection Drive--
For WeCAN
Following a very successful effort last year, Mound Westonka High School advisories and homerooms will be collecting items for the Western Communities Action Network (WeCAN) during the week of Monday, Nov. 16 through Friday, Nov. 20.

Spotlight on Scholarship Awards--
Given to White Hawks Athletes
The Minnesota State High School League recently awarded 121 Spotlight on Scholarship certificates to Mound Westonka High School students, grades 10-12, for their achievements in the classroom.

Westonka Activities Department--
Names Two Students of the Week
The Westonka Activities Department is proud to name Mound Westonka High School sophomore Erin Ross and senior Sydney Wagner Westonka Athletic/Activities Students of the Week for the week of Nov. 9, 2015. Ross plays clarinet in the MWHS Symphonic Band and Wagner is a captain of the Hawkettes Dance Team.

Sports Highlights
Cherrier Named to All-Metro Second Team
Mound Westonka High School junior Isaiah Cherrier was one of the top football players in the state in 2015, according to the Star Tribune. Cherrier was named Monday to the All-Metro football second team for his performance on offense for the White Hawks this season.
 

Boys Hockey Looks to Utilize Experience in 2015-2016 Season
The Mound Westonka High School boys hockey team looks "solid from the net out" this year, with several veteran players lacing up for the White Hawks. In his seventh season as head coach, Doug Runke hopes that this will be a strong bounce-back season for the White Hawks, who finished with a disappointing 8-17-1 record last year.


Wrestling Cheer Team Welcomes New Members  
Tryouts for the Mound Westonka High School Varsity Wrestling Cheerleading Team on Oct. 28 were a great success, according to coaches. The White Hawks had an excellent turnout, welcoming back seven girls and adding five new members.
