School Board Outlines Long-Range Facilities Plans--
Seeks Public Input
Over 100 people came to the Mound Westonka High School Little Theater Monday night to hear the Westonka School Board Facilities Committee present long-range plans to improve district buildings and grounds. An hour-long presentation focused on six space constraints identified by the school board facilities committee:
  • Indoor activities space
  • Early childhood space
  • Outdoor activities space
  • Parking at Grandview Middle School
  • Theater performance space
  • Space for grade reconfiguration

Memory of Beloved Teacher Kept Alive--
Through Children's Play, Laughter

It's a place to laugh, play, imagine and explore. Dozens of Westonka School District coworkers, neighbors, friends and family members of Kelly Brady Nafus came together Oct. 26 to dedicate a new playground in her memory. Nafus was a graduate of Mound Westonka High School and an employee of the Westonka School District who died in a car accident on her way to work in 2009.

Westonka is a Sea of Orange--
For Unity Day

Students and staff throughout the Westonka School District wore orange on Oct. 21 to show their support for bullying prevention on Unity Day. This nationwide event has been recognized in the United States since 2011 as the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month.

Meet Mr. Robinson--
Mound Westonka's Business Guru
There are many new teachers at Mound Westonka High School this year, one of them being the new face of the business department, Toby Robinson. 

In the first months of the school year, Mr. Robinson has worked to create meaningful relationships with students as a business teacher, yearbook advisor and advisor to Westonka's acclaimed DECA program.

Remember to Vote Tuesday, Nov. 3--
In Westonka School Board Election
Remember to vote in the Westonka School Board election, next Tuesday, Nov. 3. 

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Westonka Educational Service Center (ESC) in Minnetrista and at Mount Olive Church in Mound. In-person absentee voting is available at the ESC through 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2. 

Up for election this year are four seats, each for a four-year term. Seeking re-election are School Board Chair David Botts, Vice Chair Ann Bremer and Treasurer Ralph Harrison. Kelle Downey Bowe is a first-time candidate.

Fall Musical Tickets on Sale Nov. 4
Mark your calendars! Tickets go on sale Nov. 4 for the Mound Westonka High School fall musical, "Little Shop of Horrors."

Performances will take place Nov. 12-15 in the MWHS Little Theater.

Though it is an odd-year election, many in the Lake Minnetonka area will be voting for candidates running for school and city offices Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Area teacher named KS95 Teacher of the Week
Jodie Rasicot, kindergarten teacher at Shirley Hills Primary School, was recently named the KS95 teacher of the week. 

MWHS students participate in Girls Design the World
Experts in the STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, art and math) are seeking creative solutions to environmental problems facing communities at home and around the world. 
Sports Highlights
White Hawks Set for Section Play
After compiling a regular season record of nine wins, 13 losses and four ties, the Mound Westonka High School volleyball team began section playoffs Tuesday in its push toward a state tournament birth.
 

Girls Swim Falls to Orono to Wrap Up Dual Meets
It was the last week of dual meets for the Mound Westonka-Holy Family girls swim and dive team. On Oct. 20, the White Hawks lost to the Orono Spartans, who are ranked eighth in the state.

White Hawks Wrestle at Preseason Nationals
White Hawks youth wrestlers Cole Munsterteiger and Jack Nelson, along with senior Ryan Reid, competed in the Cliff Keen USA Wrestling Preseason National tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Oct. 24 and 25.


Cheerleaders Serve as Spirit Ambassadors 
The Mound Westonka High School cheerleaders have came along way in six years, adding stunting and tumbling to their routines to help rev up the fans at football games.
