Public Input Sought by School Board--
On Long-Range Facilities Plans
The Westonka School Board is reaching out for public input in the development of a long-range facilities plan, covering the entire district. A presentation of the planning information is set for Monday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Mound Westonka High School theater.

In 2011, the Westonka community approved two 15-year bonds to fund deferred maintenance of school district facilities and make additional improvements to the learning environment. Now that school roofs, mechanical/electrical systems and technology infrastructure have been addressed, the Westonka School Board has begun to focus on space constraints around the district.

Please read the Borg Report to learn more.

Homecoming 2015--
Everything You Need to Know

Westonka Homecoming is here! Friday's districtwide festivities begin with the annual Homecoming parade at 5 p.m. The annual mini carnival will take place outside of Haddorff Field following the parade. Tailgating is encouraged to spend time with friends and get a full stomach before the big game, which kicks off at 7 p.m.

MWHS Boasts 41 AP Scholars--
Including Two National Scholars
Forty-one Mound Westonka High School students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams last school year.

A pair of 2015 graduates, Nicholas Battis and Fletcher Friday, were named National AP Scholars, meaning they earned an average score of at least 4.0 on at least eight AP Exams.

Royal Court Reigns--
Over Homecoming Week
The enthusiastic Mound Westonka High School student body gathered for an assembly on Monday, Sept. 28, where seniors Mikayla Bebeau and Timothy Kaczanowski were crowned the 2015 MWHS Homecoming Queen and King.

Bebeau is a member of National Honor Society and Math League. She also plays on the tennis team.

Kaczanowski is a member of the cross-country, basketball and track and field teams. He has participated in the band solo-ensemble contest for the past four years.

Football Stars Share Love of Literacy--
With Little White Hawks

Rushing, passing, kicking and scoring are not the whole story. As has become a White Hawks tradition, the Mound Westonka High School football team is using Homecoming Week as a chance to give back to the school district and community. Throughout the week, White Hawks football players have been visiting elementary school classrooms and reading to groups of delighted students as part of the White Hawks Love to Read Program.

Congratulations to Isaiah Cherrier--
Westonka Athletic/Activities Student of the Week
The Westonka Activities Department is proud to name Mound Westonka High School junior Isaiah Cherrier Westonka Athletic/Activities Student of the Week for the week of Sept. 28, 2015.

In the Sept. 26 game at Minneapolis Patrick Henry, Cherrier had a great game on both sides of the ball. He rushed for 84 yards and one touchdown while also catching four passes for 28 yards. On defense, Cherrier returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown that put the game away for the White Hawks in the third quarter.

Cherrier's big play propels Mound Westonka past Patrick Henry
Two words describe Mound Westonka's Isaiah Cherrier. Big time. The junior's Twitter bio is a quote by Santana Moss from his days playing at the University of Miami: "Big-time players make big-time plays in big games."
Sports Highlights
Girls Tennis Preps for Postseason Play
Overall, the Mound Westonka High School girls tennis team has had a successful season, reaching their goal of placing in the top three in Wright County Conference play.

Undefeated White Hawks Charge Past Patriots
The White Hawks coaches knew they were looking at a special group of players when their team held its own against top-notch programs from around the Midwest at the Augustana College football camp in June. But a 6-0 start to the season was more than anyone predicted.

Boys Soccer Wins on Senior Night
Senior and Parent Night provided the backdrop for the Mound Westonka High School boys soccer game on Sept. 28 against Mayer Lutheran. Seniors dominated the lineup for most of the first half.

White Hawks Place Eighth at Milaca Mega Meet
The term "mega" doesn't do justice to the description of the Milaca Mega Meet, held Sept. 26 at Stone's Throw Golf Course. There were well over 100 schools represented in 18 different divisions/races.

Girls Soccer Claims 7-0 Win, Drops Two Matches
In the past week, White Hawks sophomore goalie Maddie Gutekunst made daring moves in a matchup against Providence Academy; had 20 saves against local rival Orono; and had a much-deserved break against Mayer Lutheran.

Tough Week for White Hawks Volleyball
On Sept. 22 the White Hawks volleyball team went up against the Delano Tigers, falling 0-3. On Sept. 24 the White Hawks took the long trek to Annandale to match up against the 8-1 Cardinals and came away with a 1-3 loss.
