State Recognizes Grandview as Reward School--
Shirley Hills is Celebration Eligible
Two Westonka School District schools were once again recognized among Minnesota's top-performing Title I schools, as indicated by the state's Multiple Measurements Ratings (MMR).

In a list released earlier this month by the Minnesota Department of Education, Grandview Middle School once again earned Reward School status with a 81.76 percent MMR. Grandview is one of only 30 Minnesota schools to earn this distinction four times. The district's other Title I school, Shirley Hills Primary, was recognized as Celebration Eligible by MDE this year.

MWHS Congratulates Claire Rude--
National Merit Semifinalist
Claire Rude, a senior at Mound Westonka High School, was recently notified that she is a National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist. This honor places Rude in the top five percent of the over 1.5 million students competing for this recognition. Rude is now one of 16,000 students nationally who qualified for the National Merit Scholarship.

"I was happy to do well," said Rude. "I'm proud to represent Mound Westonka High School in the competition."

MWHS Student Senate--
Leads with High Energy
The Mound Westonka High School Student Senate is already hard at work, promoting spirit and participation within the school.

This year's Senate is led by senior Nikki Wharram, president; senior Meghan Matt, vice president; senior Hans Johnson, public relations chair; and junior Lila Finney, secretary.

"We have an outstanding officer team this year," said advisor Crystal Gravelle. "We know that with their high energy, ability to lead and desire to be inclusive, that success is the only option."

Congratulations to Fitz, Swanson & Kantola--

Sports Highlights
White Hawks Remain Undefeated at 5-0
For the first time in 35 years, the Mound Westonka High School football team has secured a winning record after defeating Breck 47-0 at home on Sept. 18. But if you think the 5-0 White Hawks are going to rest on their laurels for the remainder of the season, think again.

Beat Goes On for White Hawks Cross Country
On Sept. 21 at Gale Woods in Minnetrista, the Mound Westonka High School cross country team blew by the competition and executed the team's last home "Grasshopper" meet in style. The White Hawks boys varsity took first place, as did the boys junior high boys team.

Eight Matches in Five Days for MWHS Volleyball
The life of a student-athlete is busy! Full class schedules; participating in co-curricular activities, such as Link Crew, DECA and Student Senate; playing a varsity sport; and having a "normal" high school social life do not always easily co-exist.

Girls Soccer Ties Rockford, Loses to Delano 0-1
The Mound Westonka High School girls soccer team traveled to Rockford Sept. 17 and dominated in every aspect of the game, offensively and defensively. However, the 1-1 final score did not reflect the effort put forth by the White Hawks.

Girls Swim Takes a Plunge at Dual Meets
The past week was packed with competition for the White Hawks girls swim and dive team. The team lost dual meets to Waconia on Tuesday and Hutchinson on Thursday and took fourth place in the Watertown-Mayer Invitational to close out the week on Saturday.
