When thinking about the 172 seniors graduating from Mound Westonka High School this year, the word that comes to mind is spirit. The members of the Class of 2015 have proven time and time again to be enthusiastic fans, energetic competitors and ardent ambassadors of Westonka Schools.

Student Body Honors Retiring Principal--
At Quarterly Celebration at MWHS

Mound Westonka High School students were honored May 21 for third-quarter accomplishments. The student body also took the opportunity that day to celebrate MWHS Principal Keith Randklev, who will be retiring in July after 22 years serving the district.

 

Student Senate Public Relations Chair Nikki Wharram addressed the MWHS student body and staff saying, "Please join us in thanking Mr. Randklev for being the captain of our ship, leading us through calm and rough waters, and hoping that from here on out, his journey is smooth sailing."

Three Westonka DI Teams--
Compete in Global Finals

Three of Westonka's Destination Imagination teams competed in the Global Finals of this international competition May 20-23 in Knoxville, Tennessee, where two of the teams finished in the top 10 in the world.

Westonka Students Share Talents--
At Annual Memorial Day Ceremony

Students from the Westonka School District participated in a local ceremony at the Gillespie Center in Mound on Memorial Day to honor the men and women, past and present, who have served our country in the military.

 

Around 60 Mound Westonka High School band members performed at the ceremony, and nine Grandview Middle School students read essays on the topic "What does the American Flag Mean to Me?"

For Super Team Day at Shirley Hills
From opening ceremonies to an all-school picnic to a variety of games, relays and races, Shirley Hills Primary School students enjoyed the entire day outside during the annual Super Team Day on May 22.

Food & Nutrition Services Launches New Website--
With Mobile App for Easy Menu Access
Westonka Food & Nutrition Services unveiled a new website this week, which will make it easier for families to access important food and nutrition information. 

The new site also includes a mobile phone application that parents, students and staff can use to easily view menus and other information about the school meals program.

MWHS Junior Takes Home Teen Trophy--
From Natural Bodybuilding Competition
In the Mr. and Ms. Natural Minnesota IFPA Pro North America bodybuilding competition May 15-16, Mound Westonka High School junior Zak Edington took first place in the teen division of men's physique.

This was the first professional competition for Edington, who has been training for two years.

Congratulations to Anson Kuznik--
Westonka Athletic/Activities Student of the Week
The Westonka Activities Department is proud to name Mound Westonka High School junior Anson Kuznik Westonka Athletic/Activities Student of the Week for the week of May 25, 2015. 

Kuznik finished second overall for his individual scoring average in the Wright County Conference, helping lead the White Hawks to their first conference title since 1998.

Ridgeview Foundation gives healthcare scholarships
Ridgeview Foundation recently announced the 2015 recipients of a $1,000 Health Care Scholarship.

New MWHS principal to start in July

Mark McIlmoyle will replace Keith Randklev as principal of Mound Westonka High School.

Randklev will retire in July after serving the district for 22 years.

Starting in July, Mark Mcllmoyle will be the new principal at Mound Westonka High School, taking the place of Keith Randklev who is retiring after 22 years with the district.

White Hawks Boys Golf is Conference Champion

The Mound Westonka High School boys golf team captured the Wright County Conference Championship for the first time since 1998. The White Hawks won their fourth conference meet of the season in the finale May 19 to win the WCC West title by 26 strokes over Dassel-Cokato.

Golfers Advance in Section Play

The first day of the Section 5AA boys golf competition was held at Pebble Creek Golf Course on Thursday, May 28. The White Hawks boys golf team finished in second place overall to advance to the second day of section playoffs on Monday, June 1.

White Hawks Doubles Team Advances to State

On May 22, four White Hawks tennis players competed for a trip to the state tournament. In the Section 2A "true second" doubles match, sophomore Tony Levens and freshman Torsten Lee defeated their senior teammates Tim Levens and Zach Martin to advance to state.

Girls LAX Ends Regular Season with WCC Wins

The Mound Westonka High School girls lacrosse team finished the regular season last week with victories at home against Wright County Conference rivals Becker and Monticello. The White Hawks fell to Hopkins 10-5 in the opening round of Sections on May 27.

White Hawks Lacrosse Alumni Go Head-to-Head

Jamee Schoephoerster and Gabby Smerillo, 2014 Mound Westonka High School graduates and former White Hawks lacrosse players, competed on the same field again last month, though this time they were on different teams.
