Mark McIlmoyle will Join Westonka Team--
As Mound Westonka High School Principal

Westonka Public Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Mark McIlmoyle as the new principal of Mound Westonka High School. McIlmoyle will replace Keith Randklev, who will retire in July after 22 years serving the district.


We were fortunate to have high-quality candidates apply for this position, which can be attributed to the reputation of Westonka community. McIlmoyle's experience, character, leadership and vision will complement and enhance the momentum at MWHS.

Westonka Celebrates Senior Athletic Standouts--
At Annual Recognition Breakfast

Mound Westonka High School celebrated standout athletes from the 2015 graduating class at the Yost-Haddorff-Leopold Athletic Recognition Breakfast May 13 at the Gillespie Center in Mound. The event recognized this year's Athena and Yost-Haddorff-Leopold Award winners, as well as senior three-sport athletes and state tournament participants.

Westonka Honors Retirees, Long-time Staff--
For Combined 590 Years of Service

The Westonka School District honored six dedicated employees who will be retiring this year at a special ceremony May 6 at the Lafayette Club. Additionally, 26 Westonka employees were honored for their years of service to the school district. 

 

Together, these two groups have given 590 years of service to Westonka Schools.

MWHS Seniors Receive $69K--
In Community Scholarships

Mound Westonka High School hosted the 15th annual Scholarship Awards Night on May 13, when 49 scholarships worth over $69,000 in scholarship money from 35 different donors were awarded to 42 members of the 2015 graduating class. This year's dollar amount represents the highest total to date.

Annual Jazz Concerts--
Have Cool Coffeehouse Vibe

St. John's Church in Mound was transformed into a jazz club May 8 and 9 when the Mound Westonka High School Jazz Band and Madd Jazz (MWHS jazz choir) presented their annual Coffeehouse Jazz performances.

Westonka Names Teacher of the Year--
Honors Dedicated Community Members
The Westonka School District recognized the first recipients of two new awards in a special ceremony May 8 at Mound Westonka High School. Grandview Middle School teacher Ali LaLonde was named 2015 Westonka Teacher of the Year in front of a crowd of Westonka staff, school board members and community members. Also recognized were the first three recipients of the Ann Bremer White Hawks Award for community service: Bill LaTour, Randy Lee and Sharon Thaler.

Westonka Says 'Thank You'--
During Teacher Appreciation Week
Across the district, students and parents expressed their thanks during Teacher Appreciation Week May 4-8. 

Teachers received notes and gifts, and were treated to breakfasts and lunches by school parent organizations.

Wiskus Takes Third at Junior Olympics--
Advances to P&G Gymnastics Championships
Mound Westonka High School sophomore gymnast Shane Wiskus took third all-around at the 2015 Men's Junior Olympic National Championships, held May 5-10 in Daytona Beach, Florida. 

His placement qualified him to compete at the P&G Gymnastics Championships in August.

Pop Singers Present 'Final Countdown'--
Tonight at MWHS
The Westonka Pop Singers will present "The Final Countdown" this Friday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at Mound Westonka High School. 

Tickets are $5 for adults. Kids ages 18 and under are admitted free of charge.

Westonka Athletic/Activities Student of the Week
The Westonka Activities Department is proud to name Mound Westonka High School senior Cori Anderson Westonka Athletic/Activities Student of the Week for the week of May 11, 2015. 

Anderson was recognized as the 2014-2015 Mound Westonka High School Athena Award winner at the Yost-Haddorff-Leopold Athletic Recognition Breakfast May 13.

White Hawks Defend St. James Tourney Title

It was an undefeated week for the Mound Westonka High School boys varsity tennis team. In a match against the Delano Tigers on May 5, the White Hawks came away with a solid 6-1 victory.

White Hawks Battle in Conference Play

The MWHS baseball team continues to battle in the Wright County Conference to stay above .500. The White Hawks are currently 3-4 in the conference and 8-7 overall. This past week saw the White Hawks lose to the No. 8-rated Glencoe-Silver Lake Panthers and defeat Southwest Christian by a score of 10-0.

Westonka Competes at WCC Track Championships

The Mound Westonka High School track and field team competed at the Wright County Conference Championships in Glencoe on May 12. Seven athletes earned All-Conference Honorable Mention for their second-place performances.
