Washington Post Ranks Mound Westonka--
Among 'America's Most Challenging High Schools'
Over the past several years, Mound Westonka High School has consistently been ranked among the top schools in the United States by national publications, including Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report and the Washington Post. 

This week, MWHS received its first national recognition of 2015 when it was named one of "America's Most Challenging High Schools" by the Washington Post.

May 2 Celebration 'Under the Big Top'

With a carnival theme, this year's prom promises to be an entertaining evening for Mound Westonka High School students. The fun begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, with the Grand March "under the MWHS gymnasium big top."

Mock Crash Makes Lasting Impact--
On MWHS Upperclassmen

Junior actress Shelby Smith was the fatality in the April 17 mock crash at Mound Westonka High School. The simulated car accident, held before prom, made a major impact on juniors and seniors about the dangers of impaired driving.

Middle School Musicians--
Perform in Contest
Grandview Middle School hosted the West Metro Middle Level Solo and Ensemble Festival on April 18. 

Grandview grades 5-7 instrumentalists and eighth-graders from Mound Westonka High School competed in the event, along with instrumentalists from Orono Middle School, Maple Grove Junior High School and Wayzata West, Central and East Middle Schools.

MWHS Boys and Girls State Representatives--
Named by American Legion

Seven Mound Westonka High School juniors have been selected by the Mound American Legion Post and Auxiliary to represent the Westonka community at the annual Boys and Girls State Conventions.

Color-a-Thon Registration Still Open--
Join the Fun May 2

It's not too late to register for Westonka's first Color-a-Thon 5K color fun run! Run, dance, skip or walk on Saturday, May 2, starting at 9 a.m. An after-party will feature a DJ and food trucks. Each participant gets a T-shirt and color pack for only $30.

Third Quarter Distinguished Students--
Honored at MWHS
Mound Westonka High School students who exhibited outstanding effort, citizenship and academic achievement for the third quarter of the 2014-2015 school year were honored at the quarterly Distinguished Student Breakfasts at the high school April 16 and 17.

Jazz Band to Perform--
At Famous Dave's in Uptown
The Mound Westonka High School Jazz Band will be performing at Famous Dave's BBQ at 3001 Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis on Sunday, April 26, at 6 p.m.

Congratulations to Sam Truesdell--
Westonka Athletic/Activities Student of the Week
The Westonka Activities Department is proud to name Mound Westonka High School junior Samantha Truesdell the Westonka Athletic/Activities Student of the Week for the week of April 20, 2015.

Truesdell placed second in the 200-meter sprint at the April 14 track meet at Orono High School. She also competed in the 4×400 and 4×200 relays, placing second and third, respectively.

At All-You-Can-Eat Belgian Waffles Fundraiser
The Second Annual Mound Westonka White Hawks Football All-You-Can-Eat Belgian Waffles Breakfast fundraiser will be held May 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Grandview Middle School cafeteria. 

Advance tickets may be purchased at a discounted price ($1.00 discount per ticket) from coach Nick David or any MWHS football player before May 13.

White Hawks Turn Tables Following Tough Loss

The White Hawks boys tennis team faced rival Orono at home on April 14 and suffered a tough 7-0 loss to the Spartans. The team rallied in its next conference match against New Prague on April 16, coming away with a sweeping 7-0 victory.
