Mound Westonka Theater Presents--
'Emergency Prom'

The Mound Westonka High School Theater Department will present Emergency Prom by Steve Moulds March 13-15 in the high school theater. Performances will be 7:30 p.m. on March 13 and 14 and 2 p.m. on March 15.

 

"We are very excited to be working on our second show of the season, Emergency Prom," said assistant director Meagan Anderson. "This is only the third time that this production has taken the stage and the first time in Minnesota!"

 

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for high school students. Tickets will be available online at westonka-activities.com/spring_play beginning March 4 or in the MWHS Activities Office.

MWHS Concert Choir Earns Top Honors--
At Region 2AA Large Group Contest

The Mound Westonka High School Concert Choir earned a Superior rating in the Region 2AA Large Group Choir Contest at Waconia High School on Feb. 23. The Varsity Women's Choir earned an Excellent rating in the contest.

Westonka Food and Nutrition Director Visits Capital--
For State Legislative Conference
MetzgerWestonka Food and Nutrition Services Director Laura Metzger joined school nutrition professionals from across the state for the Minnesota School Nutrition Association's Legislative Action Conference in Saint Paul Feb. 18. Approximately 50 attendees provided legislators with first-hand perspectives from school cafeterias and shared successes and challenges of operating school meal programs.

In Minnesota Scholastic Art Award Galleries
Continuing a rich tradition of Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards, Mound Westonka High School students earned one Gold Key Award, one Silver Key Award and five Honorable Mention Awards in the statewide art competition earlier this year. The work of these talented artists is now on display in the online MSAA art galleries.

Westonka Congratulates Dale Kimball--
Lord Fletcher's January Feature Teacher

Dale Kimball, technology education teacher at Mound Westonka High School, was named the Lord Fletcher's Feature Teacher for January.

 

"As a certified Project Lead the Way instructor, Dale teaches many courses in the STEM field of study, working with many students to become qualified and receive college credit in engineering," assistant principal Marty Fischer said. "I have been impressed with his willingness to re-invent himself from a traditional industrial technology teacher to a STEM instructor."

Gabe Wear named ASPIRE Athlete of the Week
Mound Westonka High School senior Gabe Wear earned the title of ASPIRE Athlete of the Week after receiving over 45 percent of online votes cast Feb. 15-18. 

White Hawk girls hockey team pushed out in quarterfinals
The White Hawks defeated Princeton 3-0 in the first round of the Section 5A Tournament Feb. 6. The White Hawks then fell to Blake 1-5 in the quarterfinals Feb. 10. 

Westonka students qualify for state Future Problem Solvers competition
Four teams and three individuals from Grandview Middle School, as well as two Mound Westonka High School students, have qualified for the state Future Problem Solving competition.

6AAA Basketball: Fire reach section basketball semifinals
On Tuesday, [Justin Dahl] scored 35 points with 13 rebounds and five blocks in leading the Fire to a 61-50 playoff win over Mound Westonka.

White Hawks Wrestlers Send Six to State

The Mound Westonka White Hawks wrestling team placed eight wrestlers in the Section 6AAA Individual Wrestling Tournament Feb. 20 and 21. Of those eight, six placed in the top two and will be advancing to the state wrestling tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27 and 28, at Xcel Energy Center.

Gymnastics Team Takes Third at State Meet

The Watertown-Mayer/Mound Westonka gymnastics team took third place at the Class A Minnesota State High School League State Gymnastics Meet Feb. 20. MWHS eighth-grader Teagan Schmidt was ranked 16th in the state on uneven parallel bars and 18th on floor exercise.

Boys Hockey Season Ends in Competitive Section Match

The White Hawks boys hockey team had its season come to an end in section playoffs Feb. 18. Seeded 10th in Section 2A, the White Hawks were matched up against the seventh-seeded St. Louis Park Orioles.

Wear Nets 1,000th Point in Basketball Finale

The six seniors on the White Hawks boys basketball team showed leadership, determination and heart in three close losses to finish out the season. In the final game of his high school career, senior Gabe Wear joined an elite group of athletes who have reached the 1,000 career point milestone.

White Hawks 8C Team Earns Championship Trophy

The White Hawks eighth-grade boys basketball C team took home the championship trophy from the Big Lake Youth Basketball Association Hornet Hoops Classic Feb. 22.
