Westonka Says 'Thank You'--
To Dedicated School Board Members

Westonka Public Schools joined school districts throughout the state to salute their local education leaders during Minnesota School Board Recognition Week Feb. 16-20.

Westonka School Board members David Botts, Ann Bremer, David Bond, Loren Davis, Ralph Harrison, Gina Smith and Gary Wollner make decisions that have a tremendous impact on our children's future and the quality of life in our community.

MWHS Concert Choir to Perform at Orchestra Hall--
For Minnesota Choral Arts Finale
 
The Mound Westonka High School Concert Choir has been selected to perform at the 10th Annual Minnesota Choral Arts Finale on April 19, presented by American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota and Concordia University, St. Paul. The MWHS Concert Choir was one of only six groups from around the state chosen to perform at the premier high school choral festival by recorded audition.

MSHSL Shines Spotlight--
On Westonka Scholars
The Minnesota State High School League recently awarded 145 Spotlight on Scholarship certificates to Mound Westonka High School students in grades 9-12 for their achievements in the classroom and their participation in fine arts and athletics this winter. This follows a fall season when 115 MWHS students in grades 10-12 were honored by the MSHSL.

Gabe Wear Named ASPIRE Athlete of the Week--
Westonka's Second Winner this Winter
 
Mound Westonka High School senior basketball player Gabe Wear earned the title of ASPIRE Athlete of the Week after receiving over 45 percent of online votes cast Feb. 15-18. Wear is Westonka's second Athlete of the Week recipient this season--a rare feat, according to ASPIRE representatives.

All-District Band Concert--
Slated for March 1
Approximately 375 students in grades 5-12 are gearing up for the biggest band event of the year. The Westonka All-District Band Concert will be held Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m. in the Mound Westonka High School gym. 

The program will include the fifth grade band, the sixth grade band, the seventh grade band, the MWHS Concert Band, the MWHS Symphonic Band, the MWHS Wind Ensemble and the MWHS Jazz Band.

Perform in All-State Choir
Mound Westonka High School seniors Hogan Kelly and Matthew Sheehan performed in the All-State Mixed Choir during the Minnesota Music Educators Association Midwinter Clinic at Orchestra Hall Feb. 14.

"I'm so incredibly proud of these two students," said MWHS choir director Kate Larson. "I've taught both of these boys since sixth grade. Watching them grow into the fine young men and outstanding singers that they are has been such an honor."

Second Annual 'Stuff the Bus' Food Drive--
Kicks Off Monday in Westonka Schools
For the second consecutive year, Westonka Schools will "Stuff the Bus" with food and other needed items for the Westonka Food Shelf. On March 13, a school bus will drive to each school in the Westonka School District to collect donations.

Westonka Gymnast Heads to State!

Mound Westonka High School eighth-grader Teagan Schmidt is headed to the Minnesota State High School League State Gymnastics Tournament Feb. 20-21. For the first time in 16 years, Watertown-Mayer/Mound Westonka won the Section 2A team title.

The Mound Westonka High School dance team's award-winning season culminated with season's-best performances at the Minnesota State High School League State Dance Team Tournament, held Feb. 13 and 14 at Target Center.

Bennyhoff Returns to Academic All-State Team

Mound Westonka High School senior Sam Bennyhoff was recently named to the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association All-State Academic Team, which recognizes "excellent students who also happen to be excellent wrestlers."

Sohns Honored at Final Home Game

Bruce Sohns was honored for his years of dedication and service to the Westonka community Feb. 13, between the first and second periods of the final home game of the season for the White Hawks boys hockey team.

Youth Wrestlers Take Second in MWO Duals

The Mound Westonka Youth Wrestling team completed its regular season by hosting and competing in the Mound Wrestling Organization Individual and Dual Meet Tournament Feb. 15.
