Young Musicians Celebrate Winter--
At Shirley Hills Concerts

Second- and third-grade students at Shirley Hills Primary School put on musical performances Dec. 16 that celebrated the winter season. Shirley Hills second-graders presented "The Snow Show" and third-grade students performed a multicultural holiday celebration, "Paint the Town December," to packed audiences Tuesday.

First Quarter Achievements

The "Willy Wonka Golden Ticket" Celebration Assembly at Mound Westonka High School on Dec. 12 was an occasion to celebrate student achievements during the first quarter. The celebration featured a kick-off video during morning announcements and a school-wide assembly at the end of the day.

Bennyhoff Earns Title--
Of ASPIRE Athlete of the Week

Mound Westonka High School senior wrestler Sam Bennyhoff earned the title of ASPIRE Athlete of the Week after receiving 1,452 out of 3,508 online votes cast this week. Bennyhoff will be featured on This Week in High School Sports on ESPN 1500 radio this Saturday and on GAME ON! with Rod Simons on FOX My29 this Sunday.

Grandview, Hilltop Students--
Collect Items for WeCAN

With lights flashing and sirens blaring, several squad cars pulled up to the door of the Western Communities Action Network (WeCAN) last Friday. Inside the vehicles were toys, personal hygiene products, diapers and cleaning supplies--1,609 items in all, which had been collected by students at Grandview Middle School. Led by the student council, students at Hilltop Primary School collected 682 items for WeCAN.

The Mound Westonka High School Math League continues to improve, overtaking two teams at the Dec. 15 meet. This was the team's third meet of the season.

The White Hawks will face Eden Valley-Watkins at 8 p.m. tonight in the championship game in Eden Valley.

Girls Basketball Sweeps Simley at Home

The Westonka girls basketball program swept Simley High School at home on Dec. 11. The varsity girls brought home their first victory with a 47-40 win after maintaining the lead the entire game.

Nordic Ski Competes in Sprint Relays

The Mound Westonka High School Nordic ski team participated in the 2014 Hoigaard's/Breadsmith Relays Dec. 13 at Elm Creek Park in Maple Grove.

Boys Hockey Splits in Week 4

The MWHs boys hockey team began conference play away on Dec. 11 against last season's conference champion, Holy Family, and dropped a tough game 6-2. Two days later, the White Hawks won a home game against the Providence Lions.

Wrestlers Earn Top-3 Finish at Bunyan Invite 

The Mound Westonka White Hawks wrestling team placed third out of 14 teams at the Paul Bunyan Invite on Dec. 12 and 13.

White Hawks Take Second in Spartan Classic

The White Hawks eighth-grade traveling team, led by varsity assistant coach Andre Phillips, placed second in the Orono Spartan Classic Basketball Tournament, Dec. 12-14.
