Westonka Joins 'Hour of Code'--
During National Computer Science Week

Students in the Westonka School District joined the global Hour of Code campaign Dec. 8-12. Computer coding and STEM instruction and activities are being integrated at all levels in Westonka Schools--from the primary schools to the high school

At the MWHS Holiday Choir Concert

The public is invited to the Mound Westonka High School Holiday Choir Concert on Monday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the MWHS gym. The event will feature the White Hawk Choir, Varsity Women's Choir, Concert Choir and Madd Jazz.

 

Choir Director Kate Larson said, "We really encourage the community to come and join us for this concert! It's a special event every year, and this year is no exception."

Westonka Educators 'Make it Happen'--
At TIES Technology Conference

Eighteen Westonka staff members attended the 2014 TIES Education Technology Conference Dec. 8 and 9. Teachers representing all buildings, as well as members of the Westonka Technology Integration Learning Team, attended over 200 sessions on technology and learning.

 

MWHS teacher Sue Simonson and MWHS juniors Taran Besant, Trent Clark and Ryan Nash also presented a session on the new Westonka Tech Interns course.

MWHS Recognizes Distinguished Students--
For First Quarter 2014

Mound Westonka High School students who exhibited outstanding effort, citizenship and academic achievement for the first quarter of the 2014-2015 school year were honored at the quarterly Distinguished Student Breakfasts at the high school Dec. 4 and 5.

 

This long-time tradition is planned and hosted by a faculty committee. Photos of the honored students are housed in the display case near the north doors of the high school during the next quarter.

For ASPIRE Athlete of the Week

Sam Bennyhoff, senior wrestler at Mound Westonka High School, was nominated and selected as a top five semi-finalist for the 14th week of the 2014-2015 ASPIRE Athlete of the Week program.

Community Donations--
Support School Activities

Activities Director Jeff Peterson recently accepted a check for $3,553 from Bruce Johnson, representing Minnesota Sports Marketing. 

 

Additionally, the Nordic Ski Team recently received a $2,000 donation (the largest the team has ever received) from York Solutions.

The Mound Westonka Squirt A Team is off to a strong season start with a 7-0-0 record and capturing the Championship Title at Forest Lake Vannelli's Classic Tournament this last weekend.

Wrestlers Claim Second Straight Fridley Invite Title

The MWHS wrestling team successfully defended their title at the Fridley Invite Dec. 6. The White Hawks placed 11 of 12 wrestlers, with six champions out of seven finalists.

Girls Basketball Starts Season Under New Coach

Mound Westonka girls basketball started its season with three games on the road in December. Veteran Minnesota girls basketball coach Ray Finley is the new head varsity coach for the White Hawks.

Road Win for White Hawks Over Royals

The Mound Westonka High School boys basketball team won on the road Saturday in comeback fashion, defeating Watertown-Mayer 62-56.

Hawkettes Take Season by Storm

The Mound Westonka High School Hawkettes Dance Team has been unbeatable this year, placing first in its first three competitions. At the Wright County Conference Kick Meet on Dec. 11, the Hawkettes once again came out on top.

Boys Hockey Drops Game to Rochester Lourdes

After a respectable road trip the previous weekend, the White Hawks boys hockey team returned home to take on the Rochester Lourdes Eagles Dec. 4.

The Mound Westonka Hockey Association Bantam A team now has two trophies from two tournaments.
