The Best of the Best at MWHS--
Honored During Staff Appreciation Week
Students at Mound Westonka High School showed their appreciation for staff and teachers during Staff Appreciation Week Nov. 17-21. 
Staff members received honey pots that said, "You might BEE the best at MWHS." Students also delivered flowers and sent dozens of candy-grams with thank-you notes to teachers and staff throughout the week.

Escape the Cold--
At the MWHS Winter Band Concert
Come in from the cold and enjoy some warm holiday music at the Mound Westonka High School Winter Band Concert on Monday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. 

Held in the MWHS gym, the concert will feature over 100 MWHS students in the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble.

Rotary Club's Giving Tree--
Brings Joy to Children's Hospital
Members of the newly founded Mound Westonka High School Rotary Interact Club are working to make the holidays a little brighter for local children in need. 

On Dec. 1, the Rotary Club launched the Giving Tree campaign, which gives Westonka students, families and residents the opportunity to positively affect their community by purchasing gifts for patients of Children's Hospital.

MWHS Student Launches Slow Cooker Drive--
To Ease Struggles for Local Families

Mound Westonka High School sophomore Brian Repp has launched a campaign to provide 200 patrons of the Westonka Food Shelf with slow cookers this winter. "As a volunteer at The Westonka Food Shelf, I know they are always trying to provide patrons with easy-to-prepare, nutritional food," Repp said. "I thought it would be great to be able to provide patrons with slow cookers.

The Antithesis Project--
To Perform at MWHS

The Westonka community is invited to a concert by The Antithesis Project on Friday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mound Westonka High School theater. The Antithesis Project is a Twin Cities-based chamber music organization with an interest in presenting this genre in a new, exciting, and accessible way to a variety of audiences and venues.

Thousands of Needed Items Collected--
During Shirley Hills, MWHS WeCAN Drives
Shirley Hills Primary School and Mound Westonka High School recently completed drives for Western Communities Action Network (WeCAN), and both exceeded expectations.

The high school collected over 1,200 personal hygiene items, paper products and cleaning supplies. As a reward for Shirley Hills students collecting over 300 pounds of baby products, Principal Scott Eidsness dressed up like a baby for an all-school assembly on Nov. 21.

Westonka to Host--
'Hockey Against Hunger' Drive
Winter arrived a bit early this year, so it seems appropriate that the White Hawks boys hockey team moved up its annual Hockey Against Hunger food drive to help stock the Westonka Food Shelf. Anyone donating a non-perishable food shelf item will receive $1 off the price of admission to the hockey games on Saturday, Dec. 13, at David M. Thaler Sports Center.

Westonka Congratulates Jolene Krause--
Lord Fletcher's December Feature Teacher

Jolene Krause of Hilltop Primary School has been named the December Feature Teacher. Krause is in her fourth year as a school social worker at Hilltop.

 

"Mrs. Krause has worked tirelessly this school year to welcome students and their families and create a feeling of well-being," said Principal Michael Moch. "Hilltop Primary appreciates her commitment to students and their needs."

The Mound Westonka White Hawks wrestling team will look for more success this year after a breakout season last year.

The White Hawks boys hockey team took to the road Thanksgiving weekend to wage battle with the Warroad Warriors, currently ranked fourth in the state, and the Lake of the Woods Bears.

Second Half Run Key to White Hawks Win

The Mound Westonka High School boys basketball team defeated Southwest Christian 59-54 in the White Hawks' home opener Dec. 2. Senior Gabe Wear led all scorers with 25 points on the night.

White Hawks Wrestlers Host Turkey Burn Invite

The White Hawks wrestling squad hosted the second annual Turkey Burn Invite on Nov. 29 at Mound Westonka High School. The Turkey Burn marked the team's first action of the year, and the White Hawks had a solid fourth-place finish in the eight-team field.
