MWHS Honors Teacher's Military Service--
On Veterans Day

"On Veterans Day, we remember those, past and present, who served our country, knowing that many are fighting the good fight right now," assistant principal Marty Fischer said in a message to all Mound Westonka High School staff Tuesday.

Fischer went on to recognize MWHS biology teacher Craig Swenson, who spent six years serving in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam.

Winter Has Arrived in Westonka--
Stay Informed of School Closings

Westonka students had fun in the snow earlier this week, but winter weather conditions can sometimes present transportation challenges and safety concerns. Our commitment is to keep families, staff and the community informed of weather-related school closings and cancellations. We ask that all families use Skyward Family Access to make sure that the district has the most current contact information in the event of a weather-related closing or other announcement.

Students Gain More Hands-On CPR Training--
Work to Create HEARTSafe Community
Thanks to a donation of new CPR manikins, Mound Westonka High School students are getting more hands-on training in life-saving techniques. The Westonka School District is a proud supporter of the HEARTSafe Community initiative, which promotes survival from sudden out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Day Off School Offers Training Opportunities--
For Westonka Teachers

Last Friday, Nov. 7, was a no school day for students. But that's doesn't mean that teachers had the day off.

While teachers at Hilltop and Shirley Hills primary schools conducted parent conferences, teachers at Grandview Middle School and Mound Westonka High School took part in staff development.

Student Senate, NHS Surpass Goal--
For MWHS Blood Drive

The Mound Westonka High School Student Senate and National Honor Society teamed up to host a blood drive at the high school on Nov. 4.

A total of 57 units of blood were collected, surpassing the drive goal of 54 units. According to Ann Evans of the Memorial Blood Center, that's enough blood to save up to 171 lives.
