Over Homecoming Coronation

Mound Westonka High School seniors Coco Wagner and Fletcher Friday were crowned the 2014 Homecoming Queen and King on Sunday, Oct. 5, in front of a large crowd of family members and friends.
Homecoming festivities continue today with tailgating and a mini-carnival outside of Haddorff Field starting at 4 p.m. The Homecoming parade begins at 5 p.m., and the big game kicks off at 7 p.m.

Teen Techies Gain Hands-On Training--
In Westonka Tech Interns Course
|
Beginning this fall, a class of students in grades 10-12 has been meeting during first hour to repair damaged Google Chromebooks as part of the new Westonka Tech Interns course at Mound Westonka High School.
With over 1,000 Chromebooks in the school district, the Westonka Tech Interns are helping to get damaged Chromebooks fixed and back into the hands of students quicker than ever before.

A beautiful autumn day brought Hilltop Primary School families and the Westonka community together for a fun afternoon at Octoberfest last Saturday.
The fall festival raised over $20,000 for the school.

Agriculture Commissioner Tours Westonka--
To Celebrate Farm to School Month
|
In celebration of Farm to School Month in Minnesota, Westonka Schools enjoyed special visitors and special treats during lunchtime Wednesday.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is highlighting 2014 Farm to School Grant recipients around the state during the month of October. On Oct. 8, MDA Assistant Commissioner Charlie Poster and other Farm to School representatives toured the sensory garden at Mound Westonka High School and enjoyed "super smoothies" made from locally-grown produce with students at Shirley Hills Primary School.

WeCAN Coat Drive--
Ends Next Week

The Western Communities Action Network (WeCAN) Coat Drive will be coming to an end next week.
Please drop off new or gently used coats, snow pants, hats, mittens and gloves at the Early Childhood Center, Hilltop and Shirley Hills primary schools or Grandview Middle School by Tuesday, Oct. 14. Coats can also be dropped off at the WeCAN office, 5213 Shoreline Drive in Mound.

Join Westonka Community Education for the Daddy Daughter Dance on Friday, Oct. 24.
The enchanted evening includes a craft, dancing, snacks and punch, and even princesses! The dance is open to ages 3-10 with parent and will take place at 6:15 p.m. at Grandview Middle School.

During the last Minnesota Twins homestand of this season, Grandview Middle School students Jenna Brustad, Olivia Gable and Robby Brustad met current Twins baseball announcer and 1991 Twins World Series MVP Jack Morris.
Benefit Oct. 13 for Mound Westonka grad with traumatic brain injury
Randy Rosengren, owner of The Sunshine Factory Bar & Grill in Plymouth, will host a benefit on Monday, Oct. 13, in support of Brian Nash, a Mound Westonka graduate.

Girls Soccer Advances to Section Round 2
The Mound Westonka High School varsity girls soccer team defeated the Southwest Christian Stars 2-0 in the first round of the Section 6A playoffs at a home game on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Senior Cori Anderson racked up two goals, one in each half.

White Hawks Gear Up for Homecoming
After a pair of losses to Glencoe-Silver Lake and Dassel-Cokato, the Mound Westonka White Hawks football team is gearing up for an exciting Homecoming battle tonight, Friday, Oct. 10, against New London-Spicer. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Boys Soccer Earns Playoff Win
The Mound Westonka boys soccer team faced Delano in the Section playoffs Oct. 7. The White Hawks won 2-1, avenging their loss to the Tigers one week earlier and allowing them to savor a playoff victory for the first time in several seasons.

Swim and Dive Defeated by Delano, Hutch
On Sept. 30, the White Hawks girls swim and dive team traveled to Delano, where they lost by a very close margin of 87 to 83 points. On Oct. 2, the White Hawks fell to the Hutchinson Tigersharks, who are ranked sixth in the state for Class A.
Bowling Wins Two in a Row
The Mound Westonka High School bowling team won two matches in a row on Oct. 6 at Louisville Lanes in Shakopee. The team's next match is Friday, Oct 10. at Country Club Lanes at 4 p.m.
