MWHS Student Senate--
Promotes School Spirit

Even though the new school year started less than a month ago, members of the Mound Westonka High School Student Senate are already hard at work promoting spirit and participation within the school. This year's Senate is led by senior Abe Thaler, president; junior Nikki Wharram, public relations chair; junior Meghan Matt, secretary; and senior Mitchell Wanous, vice president.

Westonka Art Teachers Receive Leadership Awards--
Online Art Galleries Ranked Top in State

Westonka primary school art teachers Klair Hans and Karen Olaussen were recently recognized by Artsonia--the world's largest online kid's art museum--for outstanding leadership in the area of arts education.

The Artsonia Leadership Award presented to Hans and Olaussen honors teachers who go beyond the classroom walls to encourage family and community involvement in arts education. The award also recognizes significant achievement in the area of technology integration within school arts programs. Only 10 schools in each state are selected for the Leadership Award.

Freshmen Practice Respect--
At Annual Retreat

Mound Westonka High School freshmen and the senior Link Crew leaders took part in the annual Ninth Grade Respect Retreat Sept. 24 at the Pond Arena. Put on by the nonprofit organization Youth Frontiers, the Respect Retreat inspires students to respect themselves, to respect others and to stand up for respect in their school.

Link Crew Dance--
Kicks Off Exciting Year

Mound Westonka High School students brought the excitement from Haddorff Field into the annual Link Crew Dance, which was held at the high school following the home football game on Sept. 19. The Link Crew program provides the structure for eighth- and ninth-graders to receive support and guidance from juniors and seniors.
