Construction Wraps Up--
At Grandview and Hilltop

Major renovations at Grandview Middle School and Hilltop Primary School took place over the summer, marking the final phase of the Westonka School District's three-year construction project. The improvements--which included everything from new roofs and driveways to updated windows to mechanical systems--were made possible thanks to the passage of the 2011 referendum.

Troyer Named Semifinalist--
In National Merit Scholarship Program

Addia Troyer, a senior at Mound Westonka High School, was recently notified that she is a National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist. This honor places Troyer in the top five percent of the 1.5 million plus students competing for this recognition. Troyer is now one of 16,000 students nationally who qualified for the National Merit Scholarship.

"I'm excited for the opportunities for possible scholarships," said Troyer, who said she was surprised by the announcement. "It's a great honor."

Grandview Gardeners--
Harvest Veggies for School Lunch

Grandview Middle School students in Deb Castner's Social and Personal class harvested produce from Grandview's school garden on Sept. 12.

Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista and the Westonka School District have partnered to establish and implement a comprehensive "Farm 2 School" program that provides locally grown food for Westonka's cafeterias and uses school-run gardens to enhance students' educational experiences.

Larson Named Outstanding Young Director--
Concert Choir to Perform at Midwinter Clinic

Mound Westonka High School choir director Kate Larson will receive the Outstanding Young Director Award from the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) of Minnesota at the group's annual state conference on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Larson was excited to announce that the Concert Choir has been selected to perform at the 2015 MMEA Midwinter Clinic, a statewide conference for all music educators. Their performance is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12, at 2:15 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis.

46 Students Named AP Scholars--
For Exceptional Achievement on AP Exams

Forty-six Mound Westonka High School students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams last school year. MWHS seniors Nick Battis and Fletcher Friday (pictured above) were among the 13 students who qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award this year.
