Congratulations, You Did It!

On behalf of the Westonka School District, please accept my sincere best wishes and hopes for you and your future endeavors. Your class has overcome various obstacles--including the most "snow days" and rescheduled events in recent history--and has celebrated tremendous success. 
 
You should be proud, as should all of those who supported and assisted you along the way, of everything you have achieved during your time at Westonka.

Westonka Seniors Receive $64K--
In Community Scholarships
Mound Westonka High School hosted the 14th Annual Scholarship Awards Night on May 14, when 52 scholarships worth over $64,000 from 35 different donors were awarded to 46 members of the 2014 graduating class. This year's dollar amount represents the highest total to date.

 

Guidance counselor Tina Kampa exclaimed, "It was a wonderful evening where we were able to recognize the generosity of the scholarship donors and the hard work and accomplishments of the senior award winners!"
 
Growing Minds, Growing Food--
Westonka's School Gardens Offer Hands-On Learning
This spring, Westonka students and staff have enjoyed getting their hands dirty in an effort to bring school-grown food into the lunch line.

 

Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista and the Westonka School District have partnered to establish and implement a comprehensive "Farm 2 School" program that provides locally grown food for Westonka's cafeterias and uses school-run gardens to enhance students' educational experiences.

 
Grandview Students Honored by Mound City Council--
Hames Named 'Mayor for a Day'

Three Grandview Middle School students received proclamations at the Mound City Council meeting on May 13. 

 

Sixth-graders Lily Hames, Rachel Christensen and Seth Anderson were chosen for the honor after writing the winning essays on the topic "If I Were Mayor for a Day ..."

 
Music In the Park--
Thursdays Nights Starting June 12

Westonka Community Education presents Music in the Park, Thursday nights starting June 12. 

 

Bring a picnic and listen to great music at Surfside Park in Mound, or enjoy the show from your boat. All events are free and open to the public.

The Mound Westonka girls softball teams scored its first wins in the season on May 10 against St. Paul Johnson 12-1 and Highland Park 6-4.  
 
NSGA women compete at western nationals
After qualifying at Regional competitions, three of Maple Plain's North Shore Gymnastics team members completed their 2013 - 2014 season ... 
 
Busy week for girls lacrosse, four games in five days 
The Mound Westonka girls lacrosse team had a very busy week with four games in five days, ending with their omelet breakfast fundraiser on Sunday.

Boys Tennis Headed Back to State!--

Following Section Win

The White Hawks boys tennis team is headed back to the state tournament for the third straight year after defeating St. Peter in the Section 2A Championship on May 21. Look for an eBlast with more details about the state tournament next week. Sophomore Luke Moorhead and senior Arend Turner compete today, Friday, May 23, in the individual section semifinals. Go White Hawks!

Mound Westonka Boys Tennis Player--  

Reaches Rare Milestone

Mound Westonka High School boys tennis team senior co-captain Arend Turner has achieved a milestone few high school tennis players have achieved--he is the first White Hawks tennis player to win 100 varsity matches in his high school career.

Baseball Defeats Orono Again-- 

Falls to No. 1 Waconia

The MWHS baseball team was fortunate to beat Orono the first time they played in late April. When they met again on May 15, there wasn't any suspense, as the White Hawks took the lead early, survived a scare, and then dominated the rest of the game.

Mound Westonka Senior Selected--

For All-Star Softball Series

Mound Westonka High School senior Callie Haakana has recently been recognized as one of the top senior softball players in the state. Members of the Minnesota State High School Fastpitch Coaches Association selected Haakana to participate in this year's Girls All-Star Softball Series.
