Mardi Gras Comes to Mound Westonka--
For Annual Prom Celebration
Mardi Gras came to Mound Westonka High School for the annual prom celebration on May 3. Seniors Sam Pate and Mackenzie Jansen were crowned prom king and queen. 
 
Other senior members of the prom court included Brooke Berger, Scott Harrison, Ellen Bowman, Dakota Hollingsworth, Courtney Cashman, Joshua Mazurek, Grace Holmen, Jack Sterne, Riley Reinhart, Samuel Stoopes, Gabrielle Smerillo and Broten Togstad.
 
Westonka Retirees, Long-time Staff--
Honored by School District 
 

The Westonka School District was honored to recognize seven dedicated employees who retired in the last year at a special ceremony May 7 at the Lafayette Club. Additionally, 30 Westonka employees were honored for their years of service to the school district. 

 
Westonka Math Masters Compete--
In Regional Challenge
A total of 30 fifth-grade advanced math students took part in a Math Masters regional challenge in Belle Plaine on April 25. Grandview Middle School students put on a good show, competing in fact drill, individual and team rounds. Awards were given in each category based on cumulative scores.
 
American Legion Names MWHS Representatives--
For Boys and Girls State
Six Mound Westonka High School juniors have been selected by the Mound American Legion Post and Auxiliary to represent the Westonka community at the annual Boys and Girls State Conventions. 
 
Headed for Boys State June 15-21 at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall are Adam Abrams, Nick Battis and Zach Martin. Girls State will take place the same week at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, with Siena Boser, Kristina Hayhurst and Stephanie Morande representing the community.
 
Pop Singers Show--
Spotlights Seniors
The Senior Spotlight Shows, the last school-based performances for the year for the Westonka Pop Singers, will be presented Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the theater at Mound Westonka High School. 
 
The group's two seniors, Nate Barnes and Ellie Montgomery, will be featured soloists.
 
Westonka Food Service Grant--
Will Keep Milk Cold in Summer Heat
Westonka Summer Food Service was selected to receive a 2014 Midwest Dairy Council Summer Feeding Toolkit with an estimated value of $400. The toolkit is designed to ensure that milk is served cold so that kids will enjoy dairy at its best and be lifelong milk drinkers. It also works to get kids engaged and excited about nutrition and wellness, using prizes and games through Fuel Up to Play 60, a school wellness program that encourages youth to choose nutrient-rich foods first and get out and play at least 60 minutes each day.

In a battle of top 10 state ranked Class A boys tennis rivals, No. 6 Mound-Westonka edged No. 8 St. Peter 4-3 on Tuesday at Mound.

Scott Honour, class of '84 from Mound Westonka High School, started from humble beginnings and is living the American dream. 
 
HFC Roundup: Sweep on the diamond for the Fire
Ten hits produced 10 runs as Holy Family Catholic Softball swept the season series with Mound Westonka, winning 10-0 on the road Tuesday.

Holy Family Catholic edged Mound Westonka by one stroke, 386-387, in winning the second of six Wright County Conference events Monday ...

White Hawks Boys Tennis--

Continues Winning Streak

The White Hawks continue to dominate in the Wright County Conference, taking wins against Litchfield on May 1 and Delano on May 5. The team score was 7-0 against Litchfield, with several notable wins by a young varsity team. In the match against Delano, the White Hawks played with a juggled lineup due to player absences but ended the match with a team score win of 5-2.
