Mound Westonka Ranked Among Nation's Best--
By 'U.S. News', 'Washington Post'

According to national news outlets U.S. News & World Report and The Washington Post, Mound Westonka High School continues to be among the nation's top performing high schools. 

 

In the 2014 U.S. News Best High Schools Rankings, MWHS ranks 24th out of Minnesota's 610 high schools, which earned the school a "silver medal." Additionally, The Washington Post recently recognized MWHS as one of America's Most Challenging High Schools for 2014.

 

MWHS Engineering Program--
Receives 'Project Lead the Way' Certification
The Westonka School District recently received certification for its Project Lead the Way (PLTW) engineering program at Mound Westonka High School. 

PLTW is a U.S. non-profit organization that develops hands-on, project-based science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curricula for use by elementary, middle and high schools. Having the certification means Westonka is able to offer college credit for PLTW engineering courses, starting this spring, for students who meet the college-level criteria.

At Annual Coffeehouse Jazz Concert
Mound Westonka High School musicians will present Coffeehouse Jazz on May 9 and 10 in the Fellowship Hall at St. John's Church in Mound. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. 
 
The event will feature Madd Jazz (the MWHS jazz choir) and the MWHS Jazz Band performing traditional jazz and swing music, as well as modern popular music.
 
MWHS Vocalists Compete--
Madd Jazz, Men's Ensemble Earn Perfect Scores
A total of 28 Mound Westonka High School choir
members took part in 25 vocal events at the Region 2AA Solo and Ensemble competition in Buffalo on April 11. 
 
Once again this year, all of the MWHS musicians earned the two highest ratings, Superior or Excellent. Perfect scores were earned by both Madd Jazz and the Concert Choir Men's Ensemble. 
 
Mound Westonka Honors Distinguished Students--
For Third Quarter
Mound Westonka High School students who exhibited outstanding effort, citizenship and academic achievement for the third quarter of the 2013-2014 school year were honored at the quarterly Distinguished Student Breakfasts at the high school April 24 and 25. 
 
Westonka SEAC Builds Connections--
With First Family Fun Event
The Westonka Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC), along with Westonka's Early Childhood Special Education team, held its first Family Fun Night on April 29 at the Early Childhood Center. 
 
The goal was to create and provide a parenting and support group for parents of young children with special needs, beginning in the fall of 2014.

After week one, trapshooters second in conference 
The Mound Westonka trap shooting team is in second place in the 3AA conference, trailing behind Brainerd High School after week one. 
 
Mound Westonka track and field starts season strong 
The White Hawks track and field team has only had one conference meet this season due to rainy weather.

Girls golf comes in fifth; Softball 0-3 in conference play; Lacrosse 1-2 overall, 1-0 in WCC 
 
White Hawks boys golf sees improvement despite bad weather 
The Mound Westonka boys golf team has had to play through some cold, windy conditions in its first two meets this season.

Another Conference Win

The White Hawks boys tennis team recorded another Wright County Conference victory on April 28 with a 5-2 win over Hutchinson.

White Hawks Win Two of Three--

Improve Record to 4-5

The Mound Westonka High School varsity baseball team won two out of three games last week. After defeating Orono by a 7-6 score in eight innings on April 21, the White Hawks lost to Dassel-Cokato 12-5 on April 22 and defeated Holy Angels 9-6 on April 26.

Westonka Girls Lacrosse Splits--

Pair of Lopsided Games

The White Hawks girls lacrosse team defeated the Monticello Magic 18-5 at home on April 22 but fell to the Chanhassen Storm 16-2 in an away game April 28.
