Westonka Students Inducted--
Into National Honor Society
A total of 35 Mound Westonka High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society at a special ceremony April 13. Another 39 seniors, who were inducted into the program last year, were also on hand for special recognition.
 
NHS President Mackenzie Strehle said, "Leadership means the power to guide others through our own actions. We also need to inspire others to become leaders themselves." 
 
Celebration of Young Musicians--
Features a Dozen Shirley Hills Fourth-Graders
Twelve fourth-grade students represented Shirley Hills Primary School at the Minnesota Music Educators Association Celebration of Young Musicians festival on April 12. The students were chosen because they have demonstrated a high level of interest, skill and participation in music class.
 
Westonka Student Lands Trip to Space Camp--
With Help from MWHS Teachers
Mound Westonka High School junior Connor Born is over the moon. Thanks to the help of two of his teachers, Born will be attending Space Camp at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. this summer free of charge.
 
During the five-night program, "trainees" undergo a regimen of drills and also learn about the mental and physical demands for astronauts, engineers and technologists. 
 
MWHS Band Solos, Ensembles--
Excel in Regional Contest
A total of 30 Mound Westonka High School instrumentalists took part in 25 band events at the Region 2AA Solo-Ensemble competition in Buffalo on April 11. Once again this year, all of the MWHS musicians earned either an Excellent or Superior rating, the two highest possible ratings.
 
Destination: Globals--
Destination Imagination Teams Place at State
For the first time, two Westonka Destination Imagination teams have advanced to Global Finals. After finishing in third place in their respective divisions at the state tournament at Jackson Middle School in Champlin, Minn. on April 12, both teams will compete in Knoxville, Tenn., May 21-25. 
 
Westonka Early Childhood Draws Bargain Shoppers--
To Annual Kids' Stuff Sale
Dozens of bargain shoppers were waiting in line at the Thaler Arena when the doors opened for the 19th Annual Westonka Early Childhood Kids' Stuff Sale on April 12. According to Early Childhood Coordinator Sarah Grimm, over $6,000 was raised during the one-day event.

Whits Hawks Boys Tennis--

Starts Season Strong

The Mound Westonka High School boys tennis team started the season strong with wins against Chanhassen and New London-Spicer. On April 14, the White Hawks hosted a very strong Class AA team from Washburn High School, losing 5-2.

White Hawks Youth Wrestlers-- 

Compete in State Tournaments

The Mound Westonka White Hawks Youth wrestling program completed another successful season, with wrestlers competing in several state tournaments. In addition to several individual recognitions, the White Hawks youth team also placed third at both the NYA and MWO Youth Duals

Girls Lacrosse Wins Season Opener--

10-6 Over Tigers

The Mound Westonka High School girls lacrosse team won the opening game of the 2014 season against conference rival Delano April 15. The White Hawks outshot the Tigers 21-12 in the contest and came away with a 10-6 home victory.
