MWHS Art Students' Work--
Chosen for State Capitol Display
A pair of upperclass artists from Mound Westonka High School, senior Carly Koch and junior Lily Durand, will have their artwork exhibited in Sen. Dave Osmek's office at the Minnesota State Capitol for the next couple of months.
 
Osmek visited the high school during the quarterly Celebrations Assembly on Feb. 6 so that the students could formally hand over their artworks to the senator in front of the student body. 
 
Shirley Hills Students--
Let Imaginations Run Wild!
Shirley Hills Primary School scientists, artists, writers and researchers let their imaginations run wild at the 20th Annual Imagination Fair last week. Over 50 students in kindergarten through fourth grade took part in the Feb. 6 event, which was sponsored by the Shirley Hills PTA.
 
"Our students at Shirley Hills continue to amaze me with their continued effort and enthusiasm to learn," said Principal Scott Eidsness. 
 
Westonka's Biggest Band Event--
To Feature Hundreds of Musicians
Approximately 350 students in grades 5-12 are gearing up for the biggest band event of the year. The Westonka All-District Band Concert will be held Sunday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. in the MWHS gym.  
 
"If you haven't witnessed this phenomenon, you're in for a treat!" band director Gretchen Chilson said. 
 
MWHS Senior Wins Good Citizen Award--
From Lake Minnetonka DAR
The Lake Minnetonka Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has named Mound Westonka High School senior Jack Sterne the 2014 Good Citizen Award winner. 
 
Sterne was chosen for his excellent citizenship and essay on personal heritage and duty to our nation. His essay will now be entered in the Minnesota State Society Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Essay contest.
 
12th Annual Junior Hawkettes Dance Camp--
And Dance Spectacular
Students in grades K-7 are once again invited to participate in the Junior Hawkettes Dance Camp. The camp, which is now in its 12th year, will be held after school Feb. 24-27 in the Mound Westonka High School cafeteria. 
 
Participants will learn basic dance technique and a dance routine from MWHS Hawkettes dance team members. The week of camp concludes with a special performance at the Hawkettes Dance Spectacular on Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. 
 
Dust Off Your Dancing Shoes--
For the First Annual Family Sweetheart Dance
Join Westonka Community Education for the first annual Family Sweetheart Dance on Friday, Feb. 21. The family-fun event runs 6:15-7:45 p.m. in the Shirley Hills Primary School gym. The evening will include snacks, refreshments and a fun night of dancing and socializing for the entire family. The cost is $20 per family or $5 per individual.
 
The deadline to register is Monday, Feb. 17. To register, call (952) 491-8040 or go to www.westonkace.org.

Mound Westonka High School senior Willie Maahs ended his high school alpine skiing career on a high note, finishing 22nd out of 88 skiers at the state meet on Feb. 12 at Giants Ridge.

Mound Westonka High School seniors Scott Harrison and Kole Retterath both earned All-State honors following impressive performances at the Minnesota State Nordic Ski Racing Meet at Giants Ridge on Feb. 13.

What began as a week of promise for the Mound Westonka High School boys hockey team, with a signature win over conference rival Delano, ended in disappointment, with a loss to Hutchinson and a tie with section foe St. Louis Park.

White Hawks Wrestlers Finish Regular Season--

On Strong Note
The Mound Westonka wrestling team put the finishing touches on the regular season, beating Litchfield in a dual and placing second in their home tournament. 

The White Hawks will open post-season action with the Section 6AAA team tournament at Wayzata High School on Saturday, Feb. 15. Quarterfinal action will begin at 10:15 a.m.
