Spotlight Shines on MWHS Musical--
Honors for Outstanding Performance
 
After selling out all four performances in November, the Mound Westonka High School 2013 fall musical production, "Copacabana," was awarded Outstanding Overall Performance of a Musical by the Hennepin Theatre Trust SpotLight Musical Theatre Program. 

Six members of the cast earned individual awards, and the company received Honorable Mention Overall Production. In addition, the orchestra was honored for the first time with Honorable Mention Performance by a Student Orchestra.
 
School Board Approves Calendar--
For 2014-2015 School Year

Westonka returns to a two-week winter break next year, and spring break will fall later in the school year, after the end of third quarter.

White Hawks Hockey Alum--
Commits to Yale University
2013 Mound Westonka High School graduate Charlie Curti has given a verbal commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey at Yale University.  
 
"Charlie has definitely worked hard to earn this recognition and to get this opportunity. It couldn't have happened to a nicer person or a better family," MWHS boys hockey coach Doug Runke said. "I look forward to following his continued success and feel fortunate to have been able to coach and work with him as his high school coach."

Mound Westonka High School had the distinction of having not one, but three, alumni on stage for the 2013 Concordia Christmas Concerts, which were held in Minneapolis and Fargo in December. 

Concordia College junior Andrew Alness, MWHS class of 2011, and sophomore Riley Peterson, MWHS class of 2012, are members of the Concordia Choir, the college's premier auditioned vocal ensemble open to sophomores through seniors. Freshman Monica Shukle, MWHS class of 2013, sings with Cantabile, the freshman women's choir.

The Orono Mound Westonka boys' swim and dive team had their home opener on Thursday, Dec. 12, against conference rival Dassel-Cokato-Litchfield.

Alpine season underway with good start
On Monday, Dec. 16, the White Hawk alpine ski teams raced against Minneapolis Alpine, South West High School and Benilde.

White Hawks Grapplers Go 2-2--
At Hibbing Duals

The Mound Westonka High School wrestling squad went 2-2 at the Hibbing Duals Jan. 3-4, earning a fourth-place finish. Senior Bryan Tierney, sophomore Drake Heath, junior Sam Bennyhoff, seventh-grader Ben Schmalz and freshman Neil Schmalz were named to the all-tournament team.

Boys Hockey Drops Two Close Games--

To Start New Year

On Jan. 2, the Mound Westonka High School boys hockey team took to the road to play its first game of the New Year against the Monticello-Annandale-Maple Lake Moose. They lost that contest 4-1. Two days later they fell to the Shakopee Sabres in a close 5-4 game.
