Pop Singers In the Spirit--
With Annual Holiday Shows
 
Celebrate the season at the annual Pop Singers Holiday Shows, to be held Dec. 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mound Westonka High School theater. The show will include some classic holiday songs, along with a variety of fun tunes. The Pop Singers will be joined by the young Westonka Mini-Pops and the Junior Pops.
 
Time of Transition for Westonka School Board--
Board Bids Farewell to Two Members
 
On Monday, Dec. 9, the Westonka School Board will bid farewell to outgoing board members Keith Foerster and Margie Saatzer. Foerster served six years on the board, and Saatzer served four. Their service to Westonka Schools will be recognized at Monday's meeting with a brief presentation and reception.
 
Westonka Students Shine--
At Community Tree Lighting
Students from the Westonka School District helped kick off the holiday season by taking part in the tree lighting ceremony in downtown Mound on Nov. 21. Despite the cold weather, a nice-sized crowd was on hand for the annual event.
 
Hilltop Third-Graders--
Share Happiness with Soup

Third-graders at Hilltop Primary School were proud to share the Stone Soup they made on Nov. 27. "Stone Soup" is a story in the third-grade reading series. The folklore teaches how working together can bring happiness.  

 
High School Bands--
Present Winter Concert

 
The Mound Westonka High School Winter Band Concert, featuring more than 100 Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble students, will be held Monday, Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the MWHS gym.

 

Highlights will include traditional holiday music by all three bands; an emotional performance of "Trail of Tears" by Symphonic Band; and Wind Ensemble's performance of the new piece "Starcrossed," which will be accompanied by a graphic novel being projected while students perform. Artist Erik Evensen will be in attendance.

The Westonka Community Education and Services Winter/Spring 2013-2014 catalog is now available to view online.

  
Winter/Spring registration is now open. There are several new classes, including the Family Sweetheart Dance, Family Dive-In Movie Nights and Adult Finance classes, as well as all your old favorites.

The Mound Westonka White Hawks suffered a tough 66-65 loss to Simley on Tuesday, Nov. 26 to fall to 0-2 on the season.

Boys hockey looks to carry last year's momentum
After a 10-2 season last year, the boys hockey team looks to fill the spots of 14 letterwinners that graduated last season.

In Far North Matchups

The White Hawks boys hockey team traveled north to play a couple of Iron Range teams Nov. 22 and 23. The following weekend, they faced two teams from the far north on their home ice.

White Hawks Wrestlers Take Second--

At Turkey Burn Invite

The Mound Westonka High School wrestling squad hosted the first-ever Turkey Burn Invite on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Mound Westonka High School. The White Hawks had a solid runner-up finish in the seven-team field.

Wrestling Cheer Squad--

Starts Season With a Bang

The Mound Westonka High School wrestling cheer squad started its season by serving as Santa's helpers at the Mound Tree Lighting, volunteering at Feed My Starving Children and cheering on the White Hawks at the Turkey Burn Invite.
