MWHS Serves Fall Harvest--
From Local Farm
October is National Farm to School Month, and in celebration, Mound Westonka High School students have been enjoying a variety of delicious, locally-grown fruits and vegetables in the lunch line this week.
  
The main meal option on Tuesday was walking tacos topped with heirloom tomatoes grown locally in Minnetrista.
 
Hilltop Octoberfest--
Raises Over $20,000
 
Octoberfest has been a fun and integral tradition in the life of Hilltop Primary School students for many years. This year was no different, with the fun family event bringing in more than $20,000 for the school. 
 
'Copacabana'--
Hits MWHS Stage
Mound Westonka High School is proud to present "Copacabana," a new musical comedy by Barry Manilow, as the fall musical this year.

 

Performances will be held in the Theater on Nov. 7, 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for adults. Tickets can be purchased online or by visiting the activities office during school hours.
 
Community Electronics Recycling Event--
To Raise Funds for Shirley Hills Fourth-Graders
The Shirley Hills Primary School fourth grade class is hosting a Tech Dump electronics recycling event Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 5293 Shoreline Drive in Mound. 

This free event is open to all and is a great way to dispose of unwanted electronics in an environmentally-friendly way. It also serves as a fundraiser for the annual Shirley Hills Wolf Ridge environmental learning trip.
 
Pop Singers Hello Shows--
Are a Huge Success
 
The Westonka Pop Singers opened their performance season the second week of October with the annual Hello Shows, which were a "huge success," according to Pop Singer Board President Stacy Hoh.
 
The show featured covers of songs from the film "Pitch Perfect," the group Imagine Dragons and some old time Styx and Boston songs. Nearly every member of the group had a solo, including a jaw harp solo by Zach Hoh.
 
Westonka School Board Candidates' Forum--
Will Be Replayed on Local Cable
Westonka District logo
Those who missed the Westonka School Board Candidates' Forum on Oct. 23, which was sponsored by the League of Women Voters, can see it replayed on local cable this month. 
 
The Lake Minnetonka Cable Commission (LMCC) taped the forum and will air it on local channels 12 and 21. Click the link below for the full schedule.
 
Senior Girls Come Out On Top--
In Annual Powderpuff Game
A total of 138 Mound Westonka High School girls participated in the Homecoming Powderpuff football game on Oct. 9. As is tradition, the seniors defeated the juniors. The annual event is a fundraiser for the senior class party. Click the link below for a slideshow of photos by Kristin Von Seggern.

Westonka Congratulates David Bormann--
Lord Fletcher's October Feature Teacher
The Westonka School District congratulates David Bormann, the Lord Fletcher's Feature Teacher for October. Bormann is a Spanish teacher at Mound Westonka High School. 
 
"David Bormann is so very deserving of this recognition. He teaches Spanish in such a way that students truly enjoy the content and the context of what is being taught," MWHS Assistant Principal Marty Fischer said.

The Mound Westonka girls took the field for their own football game for the Homecoming Powderpuff football game.

Three MWHS seniors 'Commended Students'
Three Mound Westonka High School seniors have earned "Commended Student" recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Girls Swim & Dive Ends Dual Meet Season--
Honors Seniors with a Splash
Five Mound Westonka-Holy Family senior swimmers finished their dual meet season on Oct. 10 with a 103-78 win at home against the Litchfield Dragons. 
 




White Hawks Varsity Volleyball--

Ends Regular Season

The Mound Westonka High School girls volleyball team completed the regular season last week. On Oct. 15 the White Hawks traveled to Litchfield for the final conference match against the Dragons, and on Oct. 17 they competed in the Sartell Tournament.
 

Wrestling Cheer Holds Successful Tryouts--
Looks Forward to Upcoming Season
The tryouts for the 2013 Mound Westonka High School varsity cheerleading team went off without a hitch. The team welcomed back many returning cheerleaders and added plenty of new individuals.
