Westonka Receives More Good News from Auditors--
Delivers 16% Unassigned Fund Balance
Staff Kevin Borg Superintendent
Auditors at the Oct. 7 Westonka School Board meeting gave the district an unqualified or "clean" opinion--the best opinion a district can receive.

The auditors reported that our district's revenue and expenses came in slightly better than projected last year. Westonka has an unassigned fund balance of $3,452,883 or 16% of general fund expenditures.

This is the result of our community's generous support of our local levies and of the hard work and hard decisions to prepare for the financial uncertainty presented by the state.

Homecoming 2013 is History--
Storms Did Not Dampen Spirits

The celebration of Homecoming 2013 is now a memory for students in the Westonka School District. Typical fall weather, enthusiastic crowds and events designed for the entire community contributed to an exciting week.

"Once again, Homecoming was a great time to come together as a community and celebrate all of the wonderful things that make Westonka great," Mound Westonka High School Assistant Principal Marty Fischer said.
Come See Our New Spaces!--
Oct. 15 MWHS Facilities Tour

Support Hilltop Primary School--
At Octoberfest 2013
Hilltop Primary School will present Octoberfest 2013 this Saturday, Oct. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Over $21,000 was raised at last year's event for Hilltop school activities.
Stroll-a-Thon Superheroes Raise Funds--
For Early Childhood Programs

Despite a damp, cloudy start to the day, which prompted organizers to move the annual ECFE Stroll-a-Thon indoors, the event drew 125 participants and raised over $3,000 for Westonka Early Childhood, including scholarships for families in need and new technology.
Westonka Student Artwork--
On Display in State Capitol
Two budding young artists from the Westonka School District will have their award-winning artwork displayed at the Minnesota Capitol for the next few months.

Hilltop Primary School second-grader Kylie Simon and Shirley Hills Primary School third-grader Kate Gilmore had the opportunity to meet state Sen. David Osmek this week.
Hilltop Teacher is FOX 9 'Super Scientist'--
Receives $900 for Classroom
Craig Schmidt, a third grade teacher at Hilltop Primary School, was recently selected as a Fox 9 Super Scientist award winner.

As part of this recognition, Schmidt will receive $900 From Royal Credit Union to use toward supplies for his classroom and a one-year family membership to the Science Museum of Minnesota
