49 Westonka Students Named AP Scholars--
For Exceptional Achievement on 2013 Exams
Forty-nine Mound Westonka High School students and graduates have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams last school year. This includes 12 AP Scholars with Distinction and nine AP Scholars with Honor.
Westonka Senior is National Merit Semifinalist--
Among Top 5 Percent in Nation
Alexander Robbins, a senior at Mound Westonka High School, is a National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist. This honor places Robbins in the top five percent of the 1.5 million plus students competing for this recognition. Robbins is now one of 16,000 students nationally who qualified for the National Merit Scholarship. 
Grandview Teachers Join PurpleRide--
In Memory of Friends Lost to Pancreatic Cancer
Grandview Middle School teachers Ali LaLonde, Megan Lhotka, Jean Yerhot and Julie Thomas rode 25 miles and raised over $1,500 for pancreatic cancer research in the 2013 Twin Cities PurpleRide on Sept. 15. 
 
They rode in memory of Sharon Baumel and Larry Gevik, two friends of Grandview who lost their battles with the disease.
Westonka Joins Forces with Waconia--
To Support Para, Coach Battling Cancer
Mound Westonka High School athletic and activities programs, in collaboration with Waconia High School, are sponsoring a range of fundraising efforts on behalf of Crystal Gravelle, a staff member at MWHS and assistant volleyball coach at Waconia. Gravelle is undergoing chemotherapy treatments for Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Fourth Annual ECFE Stroll-a-Thon--
Fun Family Event Oct. 5
 
Westonka Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) invites all Westonka families to participate in the Fourth Annual Early Childhood Stroll-a-Thon on the Dakota Rail Regional Trail on Saturday, Oct. 5.
 
What: Early Childhood Stroll-a-Thon 
When: Saturday, Oct. 5 
Where: Registration and check-in at the Mound Transit Center beginning at 10:30 a.m. Please park in ramp. 
Registration: $20 in advance, $25 on the day. Make checks payable to WECAC.

Since school started a few weeks ago, parents could breathe a little easier as Westonka's primary schools, Shirley Hills and Hilltop, now have secured entrances.

Westonka girls soccer 2-1 last week
The Mound Westonka girls soccer hosted Prairie Seeds Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 10 for a blowout win of 13-0.

Cross country sees good performance at last two meets
The White Hawks cross country team pushed through its second meet Sept. 5 at Montgomery with medals for senior Kole Retterath and eighth-grader Matt Humbert.

Girls Tennis Roundup: NLS topples Mound Westonka
A sweep in doubles and a couple of straight-set wins in singles allowed New London-Spicer to topple Mound Westonka 5-2 Monday ... 
 
Region Roundup: Two in a row for the Fire 
Touchdown runs of 66 and five yards from junior Chazz Johnson helped Holy Family Catholic to a 22-11 home win over Mound-Westonka on Friday. 

GSL volleyball gets first win over White Hawks
Victory came at last for Glencoe-Silver Lake as it routed Mound-Westonka 3-0 in a Wright County Conference match Tuesday in Glencoe.

White Hawks Soccer Dominates--
In Combined 14-0 Win Over Panthers
In a pair of impressive shutout victories, the Mound Westonka High School boys and girls soccer teams combined to defeat Glencoe-Silver Lake High School 14-0 at home on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
 

White Hawks Volleyball Falls to Royals--
In Tough Away Contest
The Mound Westonka High School volleyball team lost to Watertown-Mayer in a close matchup Sept. 17. After an impressive comeback, the White Hawks eventually fell 3-2 (19-25, 13-25, 25-23, 28-26, 11-15) to the Royals.


Westonka Bowling Club Teams--
Split Opening Matches
The Westonka Bowling Club is off and rolling, and the varsity and JV club teams both split their matches last week at New Prague. With many players on both teams showing early potential for high scores, there is a great sense of success this year.
