To the Class of 2013--
Congratulations! You Did It!

Staff Kevin Borg Superintendent

On behalf of the entire Westonka School District, I want you to know how very proud we are of each of you.

You have faced difficult challenges, overcome many obstacles and celebrated great personal and collective success during your time here. I have been impressed--time and time again--by the integrity, enthusiasm, perseverance, talent, creativity, dedication and teamwork demonstrated by our students in this class.

I am confident that as you graduate from Mound Westonka High School in just a few short days, you will be leaving well prepared for whatever lies ahead.

Accelerated Readers--
Party at Hilltop

On May 16, motivated readers at Hilltop Primary School were honored with an Accelerated Reader Party. Over the course of the school year, students received points as they accomplished reading goals, working toward an end-of-year point total.

A total of 78 Hilltop students were recognized this year for reaching their reading goals, which was the biggest group ever, according to Hilltop Principal Nancy Benz.

Westonka Summer Food Service Program--
Offers Free Breakfast & Lunch for All Youth

Westonka Food and Nutrition Services will once again sponsor the U.S.D.A.'s Summer Food Service Program to provide FREE meals for youth ages 1 to 18 during the summer break. The program serves breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday, June 5-Aug. 23 at Hilltop Primary School.

Hiebert is Finalist--
For 'Best Teacher' Honors

Mound Westonka High School history teacher Alan Hiebert is one of three finalists for "Best High School Teacher" in the Lake Minnetonka Magazine annual Readers' Survey.

Heibert said about his nomination,"I have a mixture of gratitude and embarrassment. I'm grateful that people have taken the time to acknowledge what I do, and appreciate the efforts. I'm also embarrassed because there are so many teachers who put in so much time and work so hard at MWHS that having the label 'best' doesn't seem right."

The winner will be revealed at an awards ceremony Wednesday, May 29 at Carlson Center in Minnetonka.

MWHS Spring Band Concert--
Features Annual Music Awards

The Mound Westonka High School Spring Band Concert Monday night featured music by the Concert Band, the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble.

Under the direction of Gretchen Chilson, the three groups presented a variety of inspirational, lively and playful music.

One student in each category was randomly chosen as a big prizewinner.

Westonka Congratulates Stephanie Lolich--
Lord Fletcher's May Feature Teacher

Mound Westonka High School marketing education teacher Stephanie Lolich has been selected as the Lord Fletcher's Feature Teacher for May.

"Mrs. Lolich is so deserving of this recognition. She has a true passion for students and wants them to succeed in the classroom and out," MWHS Assistant Principal Marty Fischer said. "Through her efforts with coaching and advising, she has shown care and compassion for our youth."

Outside the classroom, Lolich has served as a DECA advisor for six years, which Fischer calls her 'shining jewel.'
