Graduating Westonka Seniors--
Awarded Record Number of Scholarships

 

At the 13th Annual Scholarship Awards Night on May 8, 49 members of the Mound Westonka High School graduating class received over $57,000 in local scholarships from 35 different donors, including service organizations, businesses, families and school groups. 

 

Both the number of scholarship recipients and the dollar amount of the scholarships awarded are the largest numbers to date.

 

Students, Parents Celebrate--
Teacher Appreciation Week

Across the district, students and parents expressed their thanks during Teacher Appreciation Week May 6-10. 

 

Teachers received handwritten notes, special displays honoring teachers were set up in school buildings, and teachers were treated to breakfasts and lunches by school parent organizations.

 

Over 500 Grandfriends--
Enjoy Special Day at Hilltop

 

Hilltop Primary School students enjoyed the afternoon with over 500 grandparents and special friends on May 9. The day included a concert by each grade level, a book fair and special classroom activities.

 

"We had many smiles throughout the day, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their time together," Hilltop Principal Nancy Benz said.

 

MWHS Choir Awards--

Jackson, McDowell, Shukle Earn Top Recognition

The Mound Westonka High School Concert Choir and Madd Jazz vocal group finished up the school year with a spring concert May 13. Students were recognized at the concert for a variety of honors, and the top music award winners for the school year were announced.

 

Senior Leadership Awards in choir went to Naomi Jackson and Zack McDowell, and Monica Shukle received the Kris Miller Outstanding Musician Award, the vocal music department's highest honor.

  

Third Quarter Distinguished Students--

Honored at MWHS

A total of 22 Mound Westonka High School students who exhibited outstanding effort, citizenship and academic achievement for the third quarter of the 2012-2013 school year were honored at the quarterly Distinguished Student Breakfasts at the high school in April.

MWHS softball begins season 2-7
The White Hawks softball team so far has played through a roller coaster season, going 2-7 in their first nine games.

Baseball drops four games on week
The Mound Westonka High School boys baseball team has lost four games in the week, including tight contests against Waconia and Delano.

Boys tennis picks up two more wins
The Mound Westonka High School boys tennis team picked up two more wins in the season to improve to a season record of 4-1 to begin the season.

Girls golf aims to grow with a young roster
The girls golf team at Mound Westonka High School is working to improve with a young group of players over the course of the season.

MWHS boys golf works to shake off winter rust
The White Hawks boys golf team is working to quickly improve their game now that they can play outside in the warmer weather.

Dragons rally for 7-3 win over Mound Westonka 
The Litchfield baseball team scored seven runs in its final two at bats, rallying for a 7-3 victory over Mound Westonka Friday at Optimist Park. 
 
Baseball: Thunder beat Fridley 3-2, fall to Mound Westonka 13-0
Mound Westonka led the Thunder 3-0 after five, then scored 10 in the sixth, helped  by three errors.
Sports Highlights
Boys Tennis Looks to Sections--
Following Near-Perfect Season

The White Hawks boys tennis team secured its place as WCC Champion Tuesday, winning a final conference match against New London-Spicer. Their only loss this season came against Class AA Minnetonka. The White Hawks head into the Section playoffs ranked fourth in Class A.
