In acknowledging the challenges caused by the weather on Thursday, we want to thank staff, parents and students for your cooperation, flexibility and efforts in getting our kids safely to school in difficult driving conditions. A tremendous thank you goes to our transportation staff for the skill and care demonstrated. 

Rep. Paulsen Gets Taste of Shirley Hills--
Joins Students for Lunch

 

U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen enjoyed a healthy lunch with kindergarten students at Shirley Hills Primary School on April 5. 

 

During his visit, Paulsen also read "House Mouse, Senate Mouse" to Pamala Weber's second-grade class, discussed his daily responsibilities as a U.S. congressman and toured the school's kitchen and cafeteria, which are scheduled for renovation this summer.

 

Grandview Problem Solvers--
Compete in State Bowl

A total of 23 Grandview Middle School sixth-graders competed in the Future Problem Solvers State Bowl on April 6 in Forest Lake. 

 

Carsten Doepnerhove advanced to Internationals by placing second in the individual competition. 

 

Wollner Wins Athena Award--
For Athletic Excellence 

Senior Molly Wollner was named the 2013 Mound Westonka High School Athena Award recipient. Candidates for this "outstanding female athlete" award must demonstrate excellence in individual or group sports.

 

Wollner is a three-sport athlete, participating in soccer, basketball and running (both track and cross-country) during her high school career. She will represent MWHS at the 41st annual Athena Awards luncheon to be held May 3 in Minneapolis.

The end of the third quarter and the beginning of spring gave Grandview Middle School students a reason to celebrate at the annual Spring Fling on March 29. 

 

The event offered a wide range of activities, including dodgeball, an inflatable obstacle course, crafts, bingo, movies, karaoke, dancing and games using kendamas - Japanese wooden skill toys.

 

Westonka Congratulates Jenny Hofstad--
Lord Fletcher's March Feature Teacher

Hilltop Primary School second-grade teacher Jenny Hofstad was named the March Lord Fletcher's Feature Teacher. 

 

"Jenny is the type of teacher who takes time to meet with the students, to clarify goals with them, and helps them all reach success points during their time in her second-grade classroom," Hilltop Principal Nancy Benz said. "I am proud to have Jenny as a staff member at Hilltop!"

Host Celebrates Record Season--
At Boys Basketball Banquet
MWHS senior captain Collin Host celebrated a remarkable season at the April 5 boys basketball banquet. As a second-year captain for the White Hawks, Host broke the school's all-time scoring record with a total career contribution of 1,336 points. 
 




White Hawks Youth Wrestlers--
Compete in State Tournaments
Several wrestlers from the Mound Westonka White Hawks youth wrestling program recently competed in state tournaments in Albany and Rochester, Minn.
