Student Senate Announces--
SnoDaze 2013
 
SnoDaze Week 
Jan. 28-Feb. 2

 

MWHS Student Senate encourages students to show their White Hawks spirit with dress-up days during SnoDaze, Jan. 28-Feb. 2. Student Senate has also organized several fun events and activities for the student body and community.
  • MONDAY ~ Jan. 28
    • Patriotic Day
    • Student Senate Dodgeball Tournament and food drive kicks off at 7 p.m., MWHS gym. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students. Receive $1 off with a non-perishable food shelf donation. Proceeds go to Feed My Starving Children.
  • TUESDAY ~ Jan. 29
    • Safety Day
  • WEDNESDAY ~ Jan. 30
    • Dodgeball Player Day
    • Student Senate Dodgeball Tournament Round 2, 7-9 p.m., MWHS gym. See admission information above.

Grandview Future City Team Wins State Title--
Advances to Nationals!

Grandview Middle School is now home to the Minnesota Future City championship trophy after a team of young engineers won the state competition Jan. 19 at the University of Minnesota. Seventh-graders Jessy Cai, Maddy Bacon, Megan Heins and Brandon Ung beat out 43 teams from around the state to win the title.

 

By winning the state competition, the four students and their coaches earned an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Annual Future City National Finals Feb. 16-19.

Teen Tournament Begins Jan. 30

The "Jeopardy!" Teen Tournament featuring Mound Westonka High School senior Joe Vertnik begins Wednesday, Jan. 30.

 

The tournament will run for 10 episodes, Jan. 30-Feb. 12. The first five days are the quarterfinals, with all 15 contestants taking turns in groups of three. 

 

Vertnik's first episode will air Feb. 5. Tune in to "Jeopardy!" on KARE-11, weekdays at 4:30 p.m.

Westonka Artists Hold the Keys--

Once again, Mound Westonka High School was well represented in the Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards. Junior Carly Koch and senior Jessica Novack were honored with Gold Key Awards for their artwork, which will be on display Feb. 7-March 3 at the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul.
 
Additionally, senior Katey Nelson and junior Leah Pinault were awarded Silver Keys, and senior Victoria Perry and junior Luke Ramacier received Honorable Mention recognition.
Talented Trio--
Joins U of M Honor Band

Mound Westonka High School sophomore Kristina Hayhurst and juniors Leah Pinault and Hanna Brustad were selected for the 19th Annual University of Minnesota High School Honor Band. 

 

They will perform this weekend alongside other talented high school band members from around the state.

Hawkettes Earn Conference Championship Title--
Look Ahead to Sections
The Hawkettes dance team competed in the Wright County Conference Championship at home on Jan. 19. The team earned the title of Overall Conference Champion, and six dancers were named to the All-Conference team. They now look ahead to the Section Tournament on Feb. 2.


Boys Swim to State--
With Wild Card Bid
For the second year in a row, the boys swim and dive team finished third in Sections. They received a wild card bid to advance to True Team State on Jan. 26 at the U of M.

Hawks Wrestlers--
Pick Up Two More Wins
The White Hawks wrestling team grinded out a pair of wins in a tough two days of wrestling Jan. 17 and 18. The squad will host Dassel-Cokato and Litchfield on Friday, Jan. 25 in the final conference dual of the regular season. 




Youth Wrestlers Compete--
In Rockford Tourney
Seventeen members of the White Hawks youth wrestling team competed in the Rockford Youth Tourney on Jan. 19. The team picked up some serious hardware, finishing the tournament with three fourth-place, three third-place, seven second-place and four first-place titles. 
 


 
Dodds, Schumacher Inducted--
Into Wrestling Hall of Fame

White Hawks wrestling alumni Eric Dodds and Ed Schumacher were inducted into the Mound Westonka Wrestling Hall of Fame on Friday, Jan. 18.
