MWHS Staff Take Pies in the Face--
To Celebrate Student Accomplishments

Mound Westonka High School's first quarter Celebration Assembly was held Nov. 30. 

 

The lively, fun-filled event featured pie-throwing and the Hawkettes dance team, as well as special recognition of students in the following categories: 4.0 GPAs, "A" honor roll, most improved GPAs, perfect attendance and the White Hawks Award (recognizing character, citizenship, improvement, kindness and/or school spirit). 

 

Hilltop Hosts Family Fun Night--
Students Showcase Science Projects

 

Hilltop Primary School was a busy place Nov. 29 when the school hosted Family Fun Night. The annual event featured a spaghetti dinner, a science fair, a book fair and crafts.  

 

"The Family Fun Night is another great way that Hilltop collaborates with our parents and community," Hilltop Principal Nancy Benz said. "We enjoy seeing all of our students, with their parents and extended family members, participate in this event."

Enjoy Sounds of the Season--
Pop Singers Holiday Shows

The sounds of the season will ring out from the Mound Westonka High School Little Theater Dec. 14 and 15, when the Westonka Pop Singers present their annual holiday show at 7:30 each evening. Also performing will be the Kids from Westonka (Pop Starz, Junior Pops and Mini Pops).

When: Dec. 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: MWHS Little Theater
$10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Please being a food donation.

A total of 20 Mound Westonka High School students who exhibited outstanding effort, citizenship and academic achievement for the first quarter of the 2012-2013 school year were honored at the quarterly Distinguished Student Breakfasts Nov. 29 and 30.

Recovers from 0-2 Start

The White Hawks fell to two ranked opponents to start their 2012-2013 season, but they recovered with a 2-0 win over Lake of the Woods Dec. 1. Following the White Hawks' next home game Dec. 8, fans are invited to attend a MIAC Division III contest at Thaler Arena between the University of St. Thomas and Hamline University. The 7 p.m. game features White Hawks alumni Riley Horgan and Zach Johnson.

Wrestlers Place Second at Fridley Invite--

Hebig Wins Third Title

The MWHS wrestling team is off to a fast start to its season with a runner-up finish at the Fridley Invitational on Dec. 1. Tournament champion Tartan High School just edged out the White Hawks by a score of 189.5 to 183.5. Senior Tyler Hebig celebrated his 18th birthday with his third consecutive Fridley Invitational title.

Hawkettes Kick Off Season-- 
Celebrate Top 10 Finishes at Chaska Invite

The MWHS Hawkettes dance team debuted a new wedding theme during its first competition of the year Dec. 1. The Hawkettes took home sixth place for varsity jazz, seventh place in varsity high kick and second place in JV jazz the Chaska Invitational

Girls Hockey Remains Undefeated-- 

Starts Season 6-0

The White Hawks girls hockey team continued its undefeated run with wins against Bloomington Kennedy, South St. Paul and Prior Lake Nov. 27-Dec. 4. Senior forward Jessica Nkhata had her second hat trick of the season Nov. 29 against the South St. Paul Packers.

White Hawks Girls Basketball-- 

Looks for First Win

The MWHS girls basketball team lost its Nov. 27 home opener to the Norwood-Young America Raiders 59-34. The White Hawks were much improved in their next game against Mayer Lutheran; however, they still came up short, losing 76-69. The team hopes to secure their first win of the season in their next game Dec. 8 at Legacy Christian Academy.

PeeWee A White Hawks--
Take Brainerd Tourney in Dramatic OT Victory
 

The Mound Westonka PeeWee A boys hockey team won the Brainerd Tournament Dec. 2 in a come-from-behind, OT shoot-out victory. The White Hawks were down 1-4 and 2-5 at times to the Blaine AA Bengals but came back to tie the game 6-6 at the end of regulation. A 3-1 shoot-out performance secured the championship.
