Haywood NorAm FIS Regional Series Standings Familiar names lay claim to the top spots of the FIS Regional Series after the OWG and U23 Selection races wrapped up in Canmore.
Jesse Cockney highlighted his fitness level and flexibility as an all-round skier as he picked up gold and silver over the final sprint and skiathlon competitions of the Trials. He has a small lead over Graham Killick who turned in a stellar performance in the 30 km skiathlon to add to his silver in the 15 km individual start event earlier in the week. Kevin Sandau moved into third just ahead of Patrick Stewart-Jones. On the women's side, Heidi Widmer edged ahead of Emily Nishikawa based on her strong sprint performances over the double OWG Sprint Selection competitions. Widmer also had an individual 10km win earlier in the season to compliment her sprint performances at the Nordic Centre. Nishikawa is in second spot and Amanda Ammar moved into third spot after she tore up the field in the Women's 15 km skiathlon at the Trials. Full article The Haywood NorAm Series continues on January 29 in the National Capital Region as the Eastern Canadian Organizing Committee hosts a 3 race event at the Nakkertok Ski Club in Cantley.

Whatch for these athletes to shine at the Paralympics
Mark down Friday, March 7, in your calendar. That's the day you'll be watching the Opening Ceremonies of the Paralympic Winter Games from Sochi, Russia, where Canada is aiming for a top-three finish in gold medals, a level achieved at the 2010 Games.
With 10 gold and 19 total medals, Vancouver saw Canada's best golden haul and total medal finish ever in a Paralympics since the inaugural Games in Sweden in 1976. The Games have been held every four years since, but it wasn't until 1992 in Albertville, France, when they started being hosted in the same city and venues as the Olympic Winter Games.
Sochi will host six winter sports, including the debut of para-snowboard. The other five are alpine skiing, biathlon, cross country/nordic skiing, sledge hockey and wheelchair curling. Canada will send approximately 50 athletes to Sochi, with the team being finalized and announced in February.

The Maintenance of Certification The National Coaching Certification Program was launched in 1974 to give coaches the confidence to succeed. The program has constantly evolved over the years to stay at the forefront of delivering programs that respect the principles and science of Long-term Athlete Development, while also reflecting the changes within sports - from the science of training, to competition strategy and tactics, to the athletes themselves. The Coaching Association of Canada and its partners, recognize the value of having certified NCCP coaches that are engaged in Professional Development programs which reinforce the values of lifelong learning and sharing amongst the coaching community.
