Project Podium logoCross Country Canada Ramps Up Project Podium Fundraising Program

Originally launched in December 2012, CCC's Project Podium program is giving Nordic fans the opportunity to ski with its athletes to the international podium, thanks to an enhanced Project Podium fundraising initiative.

Project Podium takes fundraising to a new level by bringing partners on the snow for lessons and ski tips with National Team athletes, and VIP's, behind-the-scenes access at international and domestic World Cup events in addition to hosting at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

After generating $50,000 for the National Ski Team in its inaugural season, and with a goal of nearly doubling that amount, CCC has adjusted the program's investment levels to encourage more participation, including the addition of a new Bronze level membership at an annual contribution of $1,000.

For more details and to join the program, please visit Project Podium.
Canadian Cross-Country Ski Athletes to Conquer New Territory with Suunto

At the forefront of design and innovation for outdoor and training watches, the Suunto Ambit 2 and Ambit 2S' integrated GPS and multisports training features will play an important role in ensuring CCC's athletes are physically and mentally equipped for intense training and competition around the world. The renewal marks the extension of a partnership between CCC and Suunto that dates back to 2010.

"The Suunto Ambit 2 allows me to train and prepare optimally for any upcoming objective. Not only is it completely user friendly, tough as nails, and has a long battery life after every charge - the "Movescount" software allows me and my coach to track, map, and view training data with ease. Simply put, whatever outdoor adventure awaits - the Suunto Ambit has you covered", said Devon Kershaw, Canadian World Cup Team member.

Successful IPC Canmore World Cup for Canadian Athletes

Canadian Para-Nordic World Cup Team Member Mark Arendz got an early Christmas gift on Tuesday December 17th after winning the gold medal in para-biathlon, in the men's 15km standing race. Arendz missed just one shot in four rounds of shooting. This was Mark's second medal of the Canmore World Cup, having won a silver medal in the Men's 12.5km standing Biathlon race a couple days before.

Brian McKeever also had a perfect IPC World Cup, capturing back-to-back gold medals in the cross-country ski events the previous week in the men's 10km visually impaired skate-ski race, and the 20km classic-ski race.

Ski Fit North Alberta Blog - Tales from Heart Lake!

Perched on the edge of a scenic lake and nestled in to a swath of dense Northern Alberta forest is the tiny First-Nations community of Heart Lake. Pulling in to the parking lot after a long drive down the gravel road to reach the school, the dash-board registered a frigid -22 degrees, and to be completely honest, I wasn't entirely sure how this was going to go.

The people of Heart Lake have seen their share of challenges and grief. A series of recent deaths (including that of a beloved teacher) had affected the community deeply, the principal was away at a funeral, the students didn't appear to be overly enthusiastic initially, and the wind-chill was bone-numbing.

In spite of the odds, Andrew and I worked hard to connect with the kids and eventually succeeded. Entertaining them with tales from the Olympics and our own in-house nutrition quiz show ("Are you Smarter than an Olympian"), we completed the first portion of the day and moved on to the second, skiing.

Ski S'Kool Program

Ski S'Kool Programs are a great way to introduce cross-country skiing to school aged children and youth. The main objectives of the Ski S'Kool program are:
  • Encourage schools to include cross-country skiing as part of their curriculum, thereby introducing large numbers of children to cross-country skiing.
  • Link school cross-country ski programs with community club programs to provide a continuum for the development of cross-country skiing skills.                                                                                Photo: Chris Dahlie

Quote of the Month

"It is a solid start to the season. I know I'm capable of winning, but I got a good wakeup call in the sprint race on the weekend. It is nice the results did come and I was able to get a couple of medals."
