NEW Jackrabbit Poster!

It is already time to start preparing for another great season - fall start up is here! And we have something new and exciting for you!

CCC has developed a Jackrabbit Poster as a new format for the Jackrabbit skiers to record and house their awards and achievements. This system will be more accessible and interesting, and will allow children to record their achievements in a fun and child friendly format. Each Jackrabbit will be able to hang the poster in their room, for a highly visual journey of their 4 years in the Jackrabbit program!

World Cup Team Update: Back to Bend
By: Justin Wadsworth, National Ski Team Head Coach

We've just begun our second camp of the year, and they've both been in the same place, but with totally different focuses, and really different weather-Bend Oregon. Bend was the place that I had picked for my ski career as the best place to live and train in the world. My wife Beckie Scott also lived and trained in Bend for a large part of her career, partly for me I think, but for sure she found the same great things in Central Oregon that brought me, and continue to make Bend the ideal place for

x-c ski training.

I wanted to make sure this season started well with everything running smoothly and the camps as dialed-in as possible. Bend was a no-brainer for this because not only does it have perfect training opportunities, great weather, lots other activities for the athletes, but I know every road and trail like the back of my hand, and I know what spot is ideal for each session.                    Photo: CCC

Training Tip from Shane Esau, PNST Exercise physiologist

Hydration is inextricably important part of the training process. Maintaining good hydration is more difficult in the hot summer time. There are number of ways to determine if you're adequately hydrated, but without the necessary devices to measure hydration there are affordable ways to determine this. The easiest way is to look at the color of your urine. It should be a very pale yellow. Fluid Consumption is also very important in the heat of summer. Athletes should be drinking 3 to 4 L of water per day. On top of that you should be drinking 750 to 1000 mL of water for every hour of exercise. If you are exercising for more than one hour you should also be consuming some sort of sports drink.

SIRC logo The High Impact of Low Iron

Athletes are more sensitive to the effects of iron deficiency because they depend on the body's ability to transport oxygen to the muscles. Anemia occurs when there isn't enough hemoglobin (an iron-protein compound in red blood cells that transports oxygen) in the blood and there are too few red blood cells. Iron, as part of the protein hemoglobin, carries oxygen throughout the body, which is especially essential for endurance athletes.
