Cross Country Canada would like to extend its thoughts to all families affected by the devastating floods in southern Alberta.
As many of the national body's athletes and staff call Canmore, Alberta home, which has been significantly affected by the natural disaster, all of our athletes, coaches and team members are safe.
Cross Country Canada's thoughts are with our staff and athletes, our Olympic and Paralympic family in the area, along with friends and the community of Canmore.

Cross Country Canada has confirmed that the 2014 Haywood Para-Nordic Ski Nationals will be moved from Corner Brook, NL to the Canadian Eastern Championships (Jan 31-Feb 2, 2014) at Nakkertok Nordic in Cantley, QC.
With most of our top Para-Nordic athletes attending the 2014 Paralympics at the same time as the Nationals in Corner Brook the move to the Easterns is important to make sure we have well attended and meaningful competitions at the Para-Nordic Nationals in the Paralympic year. IPC sanctioning is planned for the 2014 Nationals adding to the importance of the event.
Please contact Mike Edwards at [email protected] or call 403-678-6791 xt.35 for more information.

Kicking back here in Canmore... By: Devon Kershaw
Training has been feeling good, and this last week was a heavier influence on level 3 intensity and speed/power based strength. The juxtaposition of course was that soreness and muscular fatigue accompanied that type of training like only that type of training can present. The positive aspect is that in a week like this - most workouts have a distinct purpose and goal (not that they all shouldn't...). Sure, you get a bit tired, a bit sore - but you also know you are getting stronger too...

2012-13 has been another busy year in regard to NCCP training activities, setting another record of trained coaches (1476 + 8 coaches in the AWAD stream). As a matter of fact, over 1000 coaches per year have been trained consistently in the different contexts since 2004-05 (see table below).

Quote of the Month
"I have a reputation - that is well deserved, documented and at this point straight fact - in which I go into every race viciously under selling myself. It's not a faade, or some sick/strange/botched attempt at playing "head games" - instead it's my natural and standard "race day low self-esteem/hyper awareness of every cell in my body that doesn't feel optimal" state. I ended up winning the race, even after I assured anyone that would listen that I was going to get owned. I don't know why I do that - other than prior to most races I truly believe that to be my fate (ie. getting crushed) - and while the time was an unspectacular 33:04 for 10km - based on the course and some other variables, I was decently happy with it. The best part was simply having a bib back on my chest and trying hard."
...Devon Kershaw on his thoughts heading into the 10km Calgary road race he won this spring |
